Job title: COBOL Migration Specialist

We are seeking an experienced COBOL Migration Specialist for a futuristic position. The ideal candidate will have in-depth knowledge of Micro Focus COBOL, modernization tools, cloud platforms (Azure/AWS), and API integration, along with a solid understanding of code refactoring and system re-architecture best practices.

Key Responsibilities:
Lead and execute end-to-end migration projects from legacy COBOL systems to modern architectures (Java/.NET).
Analyze and assess existing COBOL applications to define migration scope and strategy.
Utilize Micro Focus COBOL and related tools to re-host or re-platform applications as needed.
Apply code refactoring techniques to optimize and restructure legacy code for maintainability and integration.
Integrate applications with cloud-native platforms such as AWS or Azure, leveraging services like storage, compute, and messaging.
Design and implement RESTful APIs using tools like API Connect or similar integration platforms.
Collaborate with cross-functional teams including architects, developers, testers, and business stakeholders to ensure smooth transition.
Ensure security, performance, and compliance considerations are addressed during migration.
Prepare technical documentation and provide post-migration support and knowledge transfer.
Evaluate modernization tools and frameworks to streamline migration efforts.

Required Skills & Qualifications:
Strong development experience with COBOL, preferably in mainframe and Micro Focus COBOL environments.
Experience in application migration or modernization to Java or .NET.
Hands-on experience with modernization tools (e.g., Micro Focus Enterprise Suite, Raincode, Heirloom, etc.).
Proficiency in cloud platforms like Azure or AWS and their associated migration tools.
Experience designing and integrating with APIs; familiarity with tools like API Connect, MuleSoft, or similar.
Solid understanding of code refactoring, re-hosting, and re-engineering techniques.
Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
Excellent communication and stakeholder engagement skills.
Bachelor's degree in computer science, Engineering, or related field.
Experience with DevOps practices and CI/CD pipelines in cloud environments.
Knowledge of containerization technologies (e.g., Docker, Kubernetes).
Exposure to database migration from mainframe DB2/VSAM to modern RDBMS or NoSQL databases.
Familiarity with Agile methodologies and project tracking tools like JIRA.
