Job title: COBOL Project Manager
We are seeking an experienced COBOL Project Manager for a futuristic position. The ideal candidate will combine strong project management capabilities with hands-on knowledge of COBOL systems and be comfortable working in both traditional and Agile environments. A background in PMP or PRINCE2 methodologies, along with experience managing budgets, risks, and cross-functional teams, is essential.
Key Responsibilities:
Lead end-to-end delivery of projects involving COBOL-based mainframe systems, ensuring alignment with scope, timeline, and budget.
Coordinate cross-functional teams across development, testing, infrastructure, and business units.
Apply structured project management methodologies (e.g., PMP, PRINCE2) and tools to plan, monitor, and report project progress.
Manage all phases of the SDLC, including requirement analysis, development, testing, deployment, and post-implementation support.
Utilize Agile/Scrum practices where applicable to drive iterative delivery and continuous improvement.
Identify and mitigate project risks, manage dependencies, and ensure issues are resolved promptly.
Oversee project budgeting, resource planning, and stakeholder communications.
Provide technical insight and direction related to COBOL system architecture and integration with surrounding systems.
Ensure adherence to quality standards, compliance, and documentation requirements.
Facilitate regular project reviews, retrospectives, and lessons learned during sessions.
Required Skills & Qualifications:
Strong understanding of COBOL systems, including development of life cycle and system architecture.
Proven experience managing large-scale IT or mainframe projects.
Expertise in project coordination, team leadership, and stakeholder management.
Solid grasp of SDLC methodologies and software project delivery best practices.
Familiarity with Agile/Scrum frameworks and tools (e.g., JIRA, Rally).
Proficient in risk management, issue resolution, and change control.
Hands-on experience with budgeting and financial tracking for projects.
Strong communication, negotiation, and organizational skills.
PMP or PRINCE2 certification (active or in progress).
Background in banking, insurance, or public sector mainframe environments.
Experience with modernization or migration of COBOL systems to distributed/cloud platforms.
Understanding of compliance, audit, and governance in legacy IT landscapes.
