Job title: COBOL Mainframe Tester

We are seeking an experienced COBOL Mainframe Tester for a futuristic position. The ideal candidate will have hands-on experience in mainframe testing with strong knowledge of COBOL, JCL, and SQL, and be proficient in using HP ALM for test management. The role requires a thorough understanding of test planning, execution, and defect lifecycle management, with a focus on delivering high-quality software through structured testing methodologies.

Key Responsibilities:
Analyze business and technical requirements to develop comprehensive test plans and test cases for mainframe applications.
Perform unit testing, integration testing, and regression testing on COBOL-based systems.
Execute test scripts using JCL, validate data using SQL, and document results accurately.
Manage test activities and track defects using HP ALM (or similar tools).
Collaborate closely with development, business analysts, and support teams to ensure thorough test coverage.
Participate in test data preparation and environment setup.
Ensure test execution aligns with SDLC and quality assurance best practices.
Log, track, and retest defects, ensuring timely resolution and closure.
Provide test status reports and support release activities.

Required Skills & Qualifications:
Strong knowledge of COBOL, JCL, and SQL in a mainframe environment.
Hands-on experience with HP ALM / Quality Center or equivalent test management tools.
Solid understanding of test planning, unit testing, system testing, and regression testing techniques.
Experience with defect lifecycle management and coordination with development teams.
Familiarity with batch processing and data validation in a mainframe setting.
Basic understanding of job scheduling tools (e.g., CA7, Control-M) is a plus.
Strong analytical and troubleshooting skills.
Excellent communication and documentation abilities.
Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or a related field.
Exposure to Agile or hybrid delivery models.
Experience in banking, insurance, or financial services domains.
Knowledge of automation tools or scripting (e.g., REXX) is an added advantage.
