Job title: COBOL Developer
We are seeking an experienced COBOL Developer for a futuristic position. The ideal candidate will have extensive experience working with legacy systems and mainframe technologies including COBOL, JCL, CICS, DB2, VSAM, and IBM z/OS. This role involves developing, enhancing, maintaining, and supporting business-critical applications in a high-availability environment.
Key Responsibilities:
Analyze, design, code, test, and implement COBOL programs for business applications.
Modify and maintain existing applications to enhance performance or adapt to new business requirements.
Develop batch and online programs using JCL, COBOL, CICS, and VSAM.
Write and debug SQL queries for DB2 databases.
Utilize TSO/ISPF for code editing, file manipulation, and system navigation.
Perform unit testing and support system and user acceptance testing.
Troubleshoot production issues and provide timely resolutions.
Collaborate with business analysts, QA teams, and end-users to define system requirements and deliver effective solutions.
Participate in code reviews, documentation, and deployment processes.
Work within Agile or Waterfall SDLC frameworks as required.
Required Skills & Qualifications:
5+ years of experience in mainframe development with COBOL.
Proficient in COBOL, JCL, CICS, VSAM, DB2, ISPF, TSO, and IBM z/OS.
Strong understanding of relational databases and SQL.
Experience with Mainframe utilities like IDCAMS, IEBGENER, IEFBR14, etc.
Familiarity with debugging tools like XPEDITER, IBM Fault Analyzer, or IBM Debug Tool.
Ability to analyze complex systems and debug code effectively.
Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
Knowledge of IMS DB/DC is a plus.
Experience with ChangeMan, Endevor, or similar source control tools.
Exposure to CA7, Control-M, or other job scheduling tools.
Experience working in financial services, insurance, healthcare, or government sectors.
Knowledge of API or middleware integration between mainframe and distributed systems.
