SEN Student Support Mentor - Secondary & Post-16 (11-19)

Full-Time Opportunity

Be the person who helps young people believe in their future

We are urgently seeking a dedicated SEN Student Support Mentor to work with students aged 11-19, supporting those with Special Educational Needs and Disabilities (SEND) to access education, build confidence, and develop essential life skills.

This is more than a support role-it's an opportunity to play a key part in shaping a young person's journey, helping them overcome barriers and achieve their potential both in and beyond the classroom.
- A varied role supporting students across secondary and post-16
- A chance to make a meaningful, visible impact every day
- Work within a collaborative, supportive SEN team
- Develop valuable experience across academic, pastoral, and personal support

In this rewarding and high-impact position, you will:
- Provide 1:1 and small group support for students with a range of needs including Autism (ASC), ADHD, SEMH, learning difficulties, and physical needs
- Support pupils in both mainstream classrooms and specialist SEN settings
- Adapt learning materials and activities to meet individual needs
- Encourage independence, resilience, and confidence in learning and daily life
- Promote inclusion and ensure every student feels supported and valued

You'll be a consistent, trusted presence helping students engage with school and succeed.

You will:
- Support literacy, numeracy, and subject-based learning
- Reinforce teacher instructions and break down learning objectives
- Monitor progress and provide feedback to teaching staff
- Support students during assessments and exams where appropriate
- Encourage active participation in lessons and wider school life

You will:
- Implement behaviour strategies in line with school policy
- Support emotional regulation and positive social development
- Build strong relationships to encourage engagement and wellbeing
- Help maintain a safe, structured, and supportive environment

Where required, you will:
- Support students with personal care needs including mobility, toileting, or feeding
- Deliver care with dignity, respect, and safeguarding at the forefront

You will:
- Work closely with teachers, the SENCO, pastoral teams, and external professionals
- Support the delivery and review of EHCPs
- Attend meetings, training, and SEN reviews
- Communicate effectively with staff and, where appropriate, parents/carers

We're looking for someone who:
- Has experience working with young people aged 11-19
- Understands SEND and inclusive education
- Communicates confidently and builds strong relationships
- Is patient, resilient, and committed to supporting young people
- Works effectively as part of a team
- Is dedicated to safeguarding and student wellbeing
- Level 2 or Level 3 Teaching Assistant qualification (or equivalent)
- Experience supporting pupils with Autism, ADHD, or SEMH needs
- Knowledge of EHCP processes
- Training in safeguarding, behaviour management, or first aid

This organisation is fully committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children and young people. All applicants will be required to:
- Undertake an Enhanced DBS check
- Provide satisfactory references
