Desian Education are proud to be supporting an extremely well regarding SEND school in St Helens that supports pupils between the ages of 4 – 17 with a variety of different needs. This school are seeking a qualified and resilient learning support assistant to join their KS1 cohort on a full-time temporary basis. This role commences on 13/04/2026 and will last the remainder of the academic year.
Your new role
As a learning support assistant within this school you will be joining an extremely supportive and encouraging KS1 cohort. You will support across all KS1 classes, working in collaboration with class teachers and other learning assistants to promote the learning, engagement and development of all pupils across the cohort. The pupils you will be supporting have varying needs with the majority being ASC (autistic spectrum condition) and PMLD (profound multiple learning disabilities). You will independently plan and deliver targeted interventions in required areas including speech/communication, ELSA, and behaviours. Other core duties will include:
- Use of Makaton and PECs
- Positive behaviour support including sensory rooms/stimuli, traffic light systems, etc
- EHCP-led curriculum delivery
What you need to succeed
- Full “Right to Work” in the UK
- Have a DBS on the update service or willing to undergo an Enhanced Children’s DBS check
- Have experience supporting SEN (ASD, PMLD and/or behavioural needs is advantageous)
- Be at least NVQ Level 3 Supporting Teaching and Learning or equivalent qualification
- Be able to commit to a long-term full-time temporary contract (32.5 hours per week)
