We're on a journey to build a workforce reflective of our Borough.

We are committed to fostering diverse teams where everybody can bring their authentic selves to work and feel that they belong. If you want to work for a Council where everybody is encouraged to meet their full potential and make a difference in our neighbourhoods, we would love to hear from you!

Your role:

Do you have a relentless passion for making a difference as a senior manager and leader in the lives of vulnerable adolescent children experiencing contextual harm and their families? Do you believe that such children require a bespoke and tailored offer via a trusted relationship and trauma responsive approach to help achieve safety and a positive transition to adulthood?

If so, you are likely to be excited at the prospect of being at the forefront of helping to lead our ‘REACH’ Safeguarding Adolescent Service, which has aligned our Youth Justice, Complex Safeguarding, Youth & Community & Adolescent Edge of Care Team’s under a unified service structure to achieve the best possible outcomes through an integrated and collaborative delivery model.

As the Service Manager, you will be responsible for the overall operational delivery and quality of the service and the distinct teams that sit within this overarching structure. This will involve you needing to support fantastic collaborative working relationships with partners and between the different teams so that we make the best possible use of our collective resource, skills and knowledge and deliver a seamless and joined up offer for vulnerable adolescents and families who most need our support.

About you:

To be considered for this role you will need to demonstrate a strong understanding and demonstrable management and leadership experience in service/s that have delivered positive outcomes for vulnerable adolescent children. You will need to be highly ambitious for yourself, our services and most importantly our children, young people and their families. You will be driven to help practice across the multi-agency partnership develop and improve, to meet the complex and changing challenges facing our most vulnerable adolescent children. You will have an outward facing focus to draw upon and embed research, local and national learning, and best practice that aligns to relevant inspection frameworks. You will relish the opportunity to showcase and lead the development of innovative practice and partnership working across Wigan.

About us:

Wigan Council has been voted ‘Overall Council of the Year’ at the APSE (Association for Public Service Excellence) Awards. We are signed up to the Greater Manchester Continuous Service Commitment ensuring that your service will be continuous or 'unbroken' between the supporting organisations.

The Progress with Unity plan is a place movement for change for the next decade, bringing a new era for Wigan Borough. It draws on the strengths of our individual organisations, recognising that together we can achieve much more for our communities by delivering on our 2 place missions; create fair opportunities for all children, families, residents and businesses and make our towns and neighbourhoods flourish for those who live and work in them. This is a unique opportunity to work with a skilled, motivated and dedicated workforce, who are passionate about ensuring our most vulnerable adolescent children in Wigan have every opportunity to thrive and reach their full potential.

‘REACH’ is part of Children Services. It aims to improve the lives of children and their families particularly where there is harm outside the home concerns, risk of/or offending behaviour and risk of entering the care system. The service is just over two-years old and so provides the right candidate with a fantastic opportunity to be part of further shaping and developing the best possible practice model that can make the biggest difference for Wigan’s most vulnerable adolescent children.

Here at Wigan, we are proud to support flexible working patterns, when the service can accommodate this. We also take a blended approach to where we work, depending on the work we do. This may include working from home, the office, or the community. We like to thank our employees for their hard work and commitment by giving them the opportunity to access a range of exclusive rewards and benefits click here to find out more about working for #TeamWigan.
