We're on a journey to build a workforce reflective of our Borough.

We are committed to fostering diverse teams where everybody can bring their authentic selves to work and feel that they belong. If you want to work for a Council where everybody is encouraged to meet their full potential and make a difference in our neighbourhoods, we would love to hear from you!

Your role:

The role of Building Services Officer involves delivering efficient facilities support across Wigan Council’s corporate properties. You will manage building security, perform statutory checks, basic maintenance, and DIY repairs, while ensuring health and safety compliance. Duties include portering, waste management, supervising contractors, and preparing rooms for events. Flexibility is key, as the role requires working shifts across Wigan and Leigh Town Halls, occasional weekends, and ceremonial duties. Strong teamwork, problem-solving, and IT skills are essential, alongside a valid driving licence and practical knowledge of building operations.

About you:

You will have knowledge, experience and the ability to carry out general building related enquires and basic maintenance.

You will be available to work weekends on a rota basis and be flexible in terms of shift patters as the service dictates. You must also be able to apply health and safety knowledge within the workplace and be well organised.

You will be able to work well both independently and as part of a team in a flexible manner in order to meet deadlines and service demands. It is also important that you have good interpersonal and communication skills.

You will work across the borough to support all of our Corporate stock being based at either Wigan or Leigh Town Hall on a rota basis.

About us:

Wigan Council has been voted ‘Overall Council of the Year’ at the APSE (Association for Public Service Excellence) Awards. We are signed up to the Greater Manchester Continuous Service Commitment ensuring that your service will be continuous or 'unbroken' between the supporting organisations.

It draws on the strengths of our individual organisations, recognising that together we can achieve much more for our communities by delivering on our 2 place missions; create fair opportunities for all children, families, residents and businesses and make our towns and neighbourhoods flourish for those who live and work in them.

This is an excellent opportunity to join the Facilities Management team where we ensure that all our properties are safe and fully operational.
