Crynodeb

Job Purpose

The postholder will drive allocated cleansing vehicles up to 7.5 tons and carry out priority waste collection and street cleaning duties. The role will also involve acting as Team Leader, supervising and supporting allocated staff to ensure efficient service delivery.


Vehicle Operation & Maintenance

  • Drive and take responsibility for street cleansing or priority waste collection vehicle/equipment, including authorised passengers.
  • Follow all servicing instructions and carry out associated duties such as:
  • Changing and adjusting brushes
  • Cleaning vehicles
  • Adjusting water jets
  • Greasing components as required
  • Report breakdowns immediately to the Supervisor and/or Garage personnel.
  • Complete daily record sheets (mileage, fuel usage, defects) and submit to the Supervisor.


Team Leadership & Administration

  • Prioritise and allocate daily work for the team.
  • Complete routine paperwork accurately and on time.
  • Provide training to allocated staff within the postholder's competency, including instruction in the use of plant and vehicle equipment.
  • Ensure operatives assigned to the vehicle undertake effective sweeping duties while the vehicle is operational.


Waste Collection & Cleansing Duties

  • Safely collect and load priority waste, transporting it to designated transfer/disposal sites.
  • Carry out priority cleansing tasks such as:
  • Street cleansing and washing
  • Street furniture washing
  • Spillage removal
  • Flytipping clearance
  • Gum removal
  • Empty litter bins and dog waste bins, ensuring all litter on the route is collected where practicable.
  • Carry out manual street sweeping duties as required.
  • Undertake recycling/refuse/priority waste collection duties, including operation of mechanical bin lifts.
  • Identify, isolate, and safely dispose of contaminated materials and dead animals.


Compliance & Reporting

  • Collect information to assist with flytipping prosecutions.
  • Use communication facilities effectively to support service delivery.
  • Ensure compliance with health, safety, and environmental standards at all times.


Other Duties

  • Undertake any other relevant duties commensurate with the nature and grade of the post.


Key Skills & Attributes

  • A valid driving licence appropriate for vehicles up to 7.5 tons.
  • Experience in waste collection, street cleansing, or related services.
  • Ability to supervise and motivate a team.
  • Strong awareness of health, safety, and environmental regulations.
  • Good communication and record-keeping skills.
  • Flexibility to undertake varied duties as required.
