As the Senior Design Engineer for Security, you’ll be responsible for ensuring that all buildings and systems on site that contribute towards Nuclear Safety, are secure, reliable, and compliant with safety and security standards.
Your work will span both physical site security and nuclear security, and you’ll also provide assurance that systems and equipment used across other areas of the site meet the required security standards.
Roles include:
Ensuring Security Across the Site: You’ll make sure that all systems—whether used in general operations or nuclear facilities—are designed and maintained to meet strict security and safety requirements.
Supporting Physical and Nuclear Security Systems: You’ll oversee the design and assurance of systems such as surveillance, access control, alarms, and other protective technologies, ensuring they meet both site and nuclear security needs.
Planning and Supporting Maintenance: You’ll create and update maintenance schedules and job plans to ensure security systems are regularly inspected, tested, and kept in top condition.
Writing and Reviewing Technical Reports: You’ll produce and update design reports and assessments that explain how systems meet performance, safety, and security requirements.
Responding to Issues: You’ll review findings from inspections and maintenance, advise on fixes, and guide corrective actions to maintain system integrity.
Managing System Lifespan: You’ll assess how long systems will last and recommend upgrades or replacements to manage ageing, wear, and obsolescence.
Approving Design Changes: You’ll ensure any changes to systems don’t compromise safety, security, or compliance with regulatory standards.
Keeping Records Up to Date: You’ll manage technical documentation and lifetime records for all security-related infrastructure.
Collaborating with Experts: You’ll work with internal and external technical authorities to ensure best practice and compliance across all areas.
You’ll also have the opportunity to contribute to the Nuclear Emergency Response Organisation, helping coordinate emergency response efforts as part of a dedicated team.
Remote working within this role is something that can be discussed at interview stages or with your future line manager if you are found successful.
