What skills and experience we're looking for

Teaching Assistant Level 3 Grade 4 Pts 7-12 £24,294 to £26,421 pro rata

3 x Permanent contracts

2 x full time – 32.5 hours per week (£18,354 to £19,961 actual)

1 x part time – 26 hours per week (£14,683 to £15,969 actual)

Required to start ASAP

You will join a dedicated Achievement Support Department providing support to students with a range of learning, behavioural, emotional or other special educational needs. You will be part of a strong team of professional education support staff making a vital contribution to the success of the School. You will be expected to work flexibly and sensitively with groups and individuals.

We wish to appoint colleagues who:

• enjoy working with a wide range of young people and adults in a busy learning environment
• have excellent organisational skills and are reliable, efficient, flexible and adaptable
• have strong literacy, numeracy and ICT skills
• have excellent inter-personal skills and can use their initiative when necessary
• have relevant experience of successfully supporting the learning and progress of young people of secondary school age
• want to make a real contribution to the life of this School

Applicants must have a good working knowledge of the whole suite of Microsoft Office software and be comfortable using Word and Excel extensively. We use SIMS as our main management information software and whilst familiarity with this piece of software is not essential the successful candidate must be able to learn quickly as they will use this central source of management information on a daily basis.

The successful candidate will be required to complete Disclosure and Barring Service declarations in line with Section 115 of the Police Act 1997. This post is exempt from the Rehabilitation of Offenders Act 1974 and the successful applicant will be required to apply for an enhanced DBS certificate. As the post will involve regulated activity with children, it is a criminal offence to apply for this post if you are included on the children’s barred list held by the DBS.

Amendments to the Exceptions Order 1975 (2013 & 2020) provide that certain spent convictions and cautions are “protected”. These are not subject to the disclosure to employers and cannot be taken into account. Guidance and criteria on the filtering of these cautions and convictions can be found on the ministry of justice website or see here.

Shortlisted candidates will be asked to provide details of all unspent convictions and those that would not be filtered, prior to the date of the interview. You may be asked for further information about your criminal history during the recruitment process. If your application is successful, this self-disclosure information will be checked against information from the Disclosure and Barring Service before your appointment in confirmed.
