This specialist SEN provision in central Manchester is a well-established, purpose-built school supporting pupils aged 11-16 with a wide range of additional needs, including autism spectrum conditions (ASC), social, emotional and mental health (SEMH) challenges, and moderate learning difficulties (MLD). The school is part of a respected multi-academy trust and is known for its inclusive ethos, therapeutic approach, and commitment to personalised learning. Your New Job

Starting in September, you will join the school as a SEN Teaching Assistant on a full-time, temporary basis, with the potential to become permanent for the right candidate. You will support students across Key Stages 3 and 4, working closely with teachers, the SENCO, and the wider pastoral team. This is an excellent opportunity for someone passionate about inclusive education and looking to develop their career in a specialist setting. Key responsibilities include:

  • Providing 1:1 and small group support for pupils with autism, ADHD, and SEMH needs.
  • Assisting with the delivery of personalised learning plans and EHCP targets.
  • Supporting students with communication difficulties, including non-verbal learners.
  • Promoting positive behaviour, emotional wellbeing, and social development.
  • Collaborating with therapists and external agencies to ensure consistent support.

What You'll Need to Succeed

  • Experience supporting children or young people with special educational needs.
  • A calm, resilient, and empathetic approach to behaviour and emotional support.
  • Strong interpersonal skills and the ability to build positive relationships.
  • A genuine passion for supporting vulnerable learners.
  • A DBS on the Update Service or willingness to apply for one through Hays.
  • Qualifications such as a Level 2 or 3 Teaching Assistant certificate, Team Teach, or experience with PECS/Makaton are advantageous but not essential.
