Crynodeb
As the Waste Services Manager, you will lead the development and delivery of the Council’s waste management policy and strategy, while overseeing the day‑to‑day operation of the waste and recycling service to ensure statutory recycling and compliance targets are met. You will provide clear direction to a large multi‑disciplinary workforce, driving performance, guiding change and supporting continuous improvement. Alongside this, you will manage complex logistics, maintain high operational standards and ensure resilience in a fast‑paced, politically visible and safety‑critical environment.
We are looking for a highly motivated, strategic thinker with strong management skills, and experience of managing in an operational delivery context. You will have an in-depth knowledge and understanding of waste management, environmental compliance and frontline operations. You will also understand how public services operate and be skilled at solving problems, managing complexity and delivering high‑quality, customer‑focused outcomes.

About you:
You will have:
- Significant experience of managing large-scale operational services and
multi‑disciplinary teams.
- Strong knowledge of waste legislation, environmental regulations and
local/national waste strategy.
- Proven ability to manage large budgets, contracts and performance targets.
- Experience leading change programmes and navigating complex, politically
sensitive services.
- Excellent communication, negotiation and stakeholder engagement skills.
- Strong analytical thinking, problem‑solving and decision‑making capabilities.
- Commitment to safety, compliance, sustainability and high‑quality service delivery.
- A relevant degree (or equivalent) and substantial experience in managing critical
frontline services.
