Although this position is a 9 months fixed-term contract, the actual contract duration will be adjusted to account for the time taken to advertise the post, complete the hiring process, and finalise pre-employment checks. This means the contract will begin when the candidate starts the role and may be slightly shorter than 9 months
§ There are currently two full time Band 6, 9-month fixed term contract positions available at Newham University Hospital:
o Hospital Dietitian- Working within the multidisciplinary team to provide an effective and flexible service to patients requiring nutrition support within the endocrinology andgynaecologywards, and gestational diabetes clinics and group training sessions.
o Community Dietitian – Working in outpatient clinics, nursing home, intermediate care centre, and potential home visits.
§ To support and supervise junior dietitians and dietetic students, and assist in their development.
§ To ensure that research and audit is undertaken on a regular basis to ensure that practice is evidence based
1. To undertake a comprehensive assessment of patients including those with diverse or complex presentations/multi pathologies using advanced clinical reasoning skills particularly in specialist field as well as other specialties as designated by the manager. This may include the use of complex calculations and/or anthropometric/other equipment.
2. Formulate and deliver an individual nutrition and dietetic treatment based on a sound knowledge of evidence based practice and treatment options using clinical assessment, reasoning skills and analysis of biochemical results. To be responsible for providing specialised advice to clients within particular specialties including nutritional assessment, dietary counselling, motivational interviewing, negotiating targets, developing care plans and communicating these with relevant health and other care agencies. This may be on a one to one basis or to groups, both in an in and out-patient setting.
3. Assess patient understanding of treatment proposals, gain valid informed consent and have the capacity to work within a legal framework with patients who lack capacity to consent to treatment
4. To attend and contribute to relevant departmental meetings and continued professional development meetings i.e. presenting at audit, journal club and clinical supervision
