Summary

Primary SEN Teaching Assistant

Job Title: SEND TA
Area: Rochdale, Manchester
Start Date: Monday 9th March 2026
Contract Type: Full-time, Term-time
Salary: £105.00 - £140.00 per day per week (depending on experience)
Working hours: Monday to Friday, 8:30am - 3:30pm

About the school:

We are currently supporting a welcoming and inclusive SEND primary school in Rochdale that is looking to appoint one, and potentially two, enthusiastic Teaching Assistants to join their supportive staff team until the upcoming half term.

The school caters for pupils with a variety of complex needs, including PMLD, SEMH, and significant developmental delays. The role involves working with children across both Key Stage 1 (ages 5-7) and Key Stage 2 (ages 7-11).
- Pupils in KS1 are working at an early developmental stage similar to nursery level, so a nurturing, play-based approach to learning is essential.
- In KS2, pupils take part in a more practical and hands-on curriculum, with some children requiring additional support with emotional regulation.

Excellent communication skills and the ability to develop strong, trusting relationships with pupils who depend heavily on adult guidance and encouragement will be key to success in this role.

About the role as a Primary SEN Teaching Assistant:
- Provide 1:1 and small group support to pupils with complex needs and EHCPs
* Support learners working at early developmental stages, including sensory and play‑based interaction
* Assist the class teacher with adapted lesson delivery, behavioural regulation and personalised interventions
* Promote emotional regulation, independence and consistent routines
* Work collaboratively with the wider support team, including therapists and SEND leads

What We're Looking For from a Primary SEN Teaching Assistant:
- Experience supporting children with SEND, PMLD or SEMH (school or care setting)
* Confidence supporting children working significantly below age-related expectations
* A calm, compassionate and resilient approach
* Strong communication skills and the ability to engage effectively
* A relevant TA qualification is desirable

If you would like to be considered for this role, please apply with a copy of your up to date CV.

Only shortlisted candidates will be contacted.
