Role Overview
The Support Worker will deliver, coordinate and promote high quality care for children, young people, and adults with learning disabilities. Support will vary throughout the day, week or month and must always align with regulatory, contractual and organisational standards. The role requires adherence to Aqua Robson Care Ltd’s core values of respect, openness and responsibility.
Key Purpose of the Role
To help each service user live as independently as possible through personalised support based on their individual Care Plans. Support Workers must always maintain dignity, privacy and independence while providing physical, emotional, social, and practical assistance.
Main Responsibilities
1. Compliance and Collaboration
• Work with colleagues to ensure the service meets:
o Legislative and regulatory requirements.
o Standards agreed with commissioning bodies.
o Organisational policies and recognised best practice.
2. Care and Support Duties
Support workers will deliver a wide range of tasks such as personal care, social engagement, educational support and household assistance.
2.1 Supporting Children & Young People with Special Needs
• Escort children and young people into the community for structured activities.
• Provide learning support in school or day service settings.
• Promote independence through practical life skills: personal care, chores, gardening, road safety and daily routines.
• Encourage social interaction and development of communication, decision making and emotional expression skills.
• Support integration into the community through transport use (bus/train), social outings and community walks.
• Offer emotional support with patience and empathy.
• Assist with educational tasks and choices during community outings.
• Follow safeguarding policies at all times.
2.2 Personal Care
• Help service users dress/undress and prepare for day care or outings.
• Assist with washing, bathing, grooming, shaving and dental hygiene.
• Support hair and nail care (fingernails only).
• Manage toileting, continence and all aspects of hygiene.
• Assist with pressure sore care under appropriate supervision.
• Support mobility including getting into and out of bed.
• Assist with rehabilitation equipment and therapy programmes.
• Provide day, evening or night sitting services where required.
2.3 Healthcare Support
• Assist service users with taking medication as prescribed.
2.4 Dietary Support
• Prepare snacks and meals based on individual preferences.
• Support service users to obtain meals when out in the community.
• Assist with feeding when needed.
2.5 Domestic and Household Tasks
• Carry out general cleaning such as dusting, vacuuming and polishing.
• Change bedding and manage laundry including handwashing and ironing.
• Dispose of rubbish appropriately.
• Assist with light needlework if required.
• Support with fuel management.
• Help with shopping, budgeting and preparing shopping lists.
• Undertake light gardening tasks where agreed in the Care Plan.
2.6 Personal Support Services
• Assist with managing personal finances including paying bills or collecting pensions.
• Help plan personal events such as birthdays or anniversaries.
• Support democratic participation (e.g., voting).
3. Administrative, Training and Reporting Duties
• Follow all organisational policies, health and safety requirements and guidance from staff and procedure manuals.
• Participate in induction, refresher training and continuous professional development as directed.
• Keep accurate and up to date records including care logs, diary sheets, time and mileage sheets.
• Attend internal meetings such as team meetings, quality reviews and knowledge sharing sessions.
• Report concerns regarding service users to the Registered Manager/Supervisor without delay.
• Take part in care plan reviews.
• Understand limits of the role and tasks that must not be undertaken.
4. Additional Requirements
• Undertake additional duties as assigned by a manager.
Person Specification
Qualifications
• Diploma or NVQ/SVQ Level 3 in Health and Social Care (or working towards it).
• Mandatory social care training or currently completing required modules.
Experience and Skills
• At least 2 years’ experience in working in the car sector.
• Ability to work autonomously and within a team.
• Strong spoken and written English skills.
• Confident with numeracy and day to day decision-making.
• Good organisational and planning skills.
• Ability to support young people with autism, ADHD, learning disabilities and emotional & behavioural difficulties, Challenging behaviours
• Capable of maintaining confidentiality and respecting privacy.
• Flexible, resilient and able to cope with challenges.
• Committed to delivering high quality care.
• Open, honest and professional in all interactions.
• Willing to take responsibility for personal learning and development.
• Able to raise concerns and report incidents when something appears unfair.
• Represents Aqua Robson Care positively at all times.
