About the Role

This is a pivotal, full-time position dedicated to the seamless execution of the upcoming summer examination series. Starting directly after the Easter break, the role requires a professional who can transition into a fast-paced academic environment. The successful candidate will act as the primary observer, ensuring that all national and internal regulations are met with 100% accuracy. This is not just a supervision role; it is a position of trust that protects the hard work of students and the reputation of the examining bodies.

Essential Requirements

  • Previous invigilation experience (ideally) or training can be provided
  • An Enhanced DBS on the update service (or willingness to apply for one).
  • Fluency in English with the ability to speak clearly to large groups
  • Eligibility to work in the UK.
Required Skills
  • Keen Observation: The ability to spot subtle cues and maintain high levels of concentration.
  • Calm Under Pressure: Remaining composed during high-stress situations or emergencies.
  • Attention to Detail: Precision in following complex instructions and completing paperwork.
  • Adaptability: Ability to handle last-minute changes to schedules or rooming arrangements.
  • Interpersonal Skills: A polite yet firm manner when interacting with both students and staff.
  • Conflict Resolution: Skill in de-escalating tension if a student becomes distressed or disruptive.
Key Responsibilities
  • Enforcing Regulations: Conduct examinations in strict accordance with JCQ (Joint Council for Qualifications) and school-specific instructions.
  • Maintaining Security: Oversee the secure handling and distribution of confidential exam papers and materials.
  • Room Preparation: Ensure the examination hall is set up correctly, including seating plans and the display of required posters.
  • Identity Verification: Confirm the identity of every candidate entering the room against the official register.
  • Active Vigilance: Monitor candidates throughout the duration of the exam to prevent any form of malpractice or cheating.
  • Incident Management: Calmly handle emergencies, such as fire alarms or student illness, following established safety protocols.
  • Providing Instructions: Deliver clear, formal announcements to students regarding the start, end, and conduct of the exam.
  • Paper Collection: Systematically collect all scripts and materials at the end of the session, ensuring nothing is left behind.
  • Register Accuracy: Accurately complete attendance registers and incident logs for every session.
  • Assisting Access Arrangements: Act as a reader or scribe for students with specific educational needs when required.
