Primary role
The purpose of this position is to carry out diagnostic evaluations on a variety of UK / US vehicles and conduct general servicing and repair work for patrons. You will assist and instruct patrons of the Auto Hobby Complex in planning and carrying out automotive maintenance and repair projects and be responsible for issuing parts and tools. You will Identify defects, maintain, repair, and/or overhaul components and systems using diagnostic equipment, including computer printouts, visual inspection, and auditory tests. You will test equipment such as; compression testers and multimeters, to determine the kind and extent of maintenance and/or repairs needed, to include, but not limited to general repairs, servicing, tire installation, wheel balancing, air conditioning suspension, fuel systems, exhaust and emission control systems, steering geometry and mechanisms, hydraulic/electric power steering systems. and brake replacement. You will provide instruction and assistance to patrons in all phases of automotive repairs including making repairs to major assemblies such as engines, transmissions, and differentials and advise patrons in safety, tool usage, and automotive technology. In addition, you will demonstrate and oversee the tear down and reassembly of vehicles components and recommend suitable replacement parts to correct problems found. You will always work in a clean, orderly fashion and conduct operational inspections of all equipment and tools prior to use, requesting patrons to tidy up their own work areas when required, assuring that work performed conforms to specifications in appropriate repair manuals.
Required Qualifications:
Level 3 Diploma (City & Guilds, BTEC or similar) in Light Vehicle Maintenance and Repair Current Driver and Vehicle Standards Agency (DVSA) Nominated Tester with a valid MOT license

Key Skills required for this role
1. Knowledge of techniques for removing, replacing, cleaning, and installing parts, components and accessories.
2. Knowledge in the maintenance and repair of diesel and gasoline powered engines and automotive equipment.
3. Ability to determine when parts should be cleaned and reinstalled or replaced.
4. Basic understanding of electricity and hydraulics and the skill to make adjustments and settings (i.e., engine tune-ups, setting engine timing, adjusting brakes).
5. Basic understanding of on-board computer diagnostic systems and other test equipment.
6. Skill in using basic automotive tools.
7. Ability to read and interpret parts manuals and manufacturers’ repair manuals.
Conditions of employment for this role
1. You will be required to handle and safeguard sensitive information in accordance with applicable US and UK laws, rules and regulations.
2. You may be required to travel by military and/or civilian aircraft and you may also be required to travel to the US or other country, in the performance of official duties or attend necessary training, this position may also be coded as mission essential.
3. You will be required to complete a 6-month probationary period.
4. Overtime may be required.
5. You may be assigned other duties not included in this position description, but that are appropriate to the grade and skill set of the incumbent.
6. You must be able to communicate effectively both orally and in writing.
7. Your work hours will be 39 hours per week on an as rostered schedule (this will be working any 5 days out of 7) where start & end times may be modified due to mission needs and in accordance with the organization's flexible working policies.
8. You must obtain and maintain the appropriate security clearance.
9. The Local National Direct Hire (LNDH) Program does not participate in regular drug testing, however positions covered by this document may be subject to drug testing upon reasonable suspicion of substance abuse, and safety mishap or accident testing.
10. The work requires you to drive a motor vehicle. An appropriate, UK valid driver's license (category B) is required for the position.
11. You must be able to pass a pre-employment physical: frequent standing, bending, stooping, crawling, working under vehicles and in tight spaces. Frequently lifting, handling, and carrying parts and equipment weighing up to 40 pounds. Occasionally, moving moderately heavy items with assistance or with mechanical devices, including objects weighing up to or over 50 pounds.
NOTE: You will require a security clearance and a right to work in the UK.
