What will be your primary role?

The primary purpose of this position is to maintain, inspect, install, repair, replace, and modify liquid fuel storage and distribution systems and their electrical components.

Some of the duties that the personnel will be performing in this role include: inspect and test fuel receiving, storage, and distribution facilities and performs preventative maintenance on fuel systems and components such as but not limited to, performing all phases of liquid fuel system and component maintenance including troubleshooting, repair, and modification by removing, installing, components of fuel systems to correct malfunctions; perform modifications of systems in accordance with applicable manuals, technical publications and manufactures specifications. cleaning the interior surface of bulk storage tanks, above and below ground, by entering tanks; utilizes safety practices and procedures following established safety rules and regulations and maintains a safe and clean work environment. Training will be given when needed and performing other duties within the water and fuel shop when required.

Qualification requirements:
• 1 year of specialized experience

• NVQ/City and Guilds Level 2 Welding and Mechanical Engineering certification, or HND/HNC/BTEC, is desirable.

What are the Key Skills required for this role?

1. Knowledge of fuel distribution and storage systems; of the physical properties and hazards associated with the handling of various types of petroleum fuels; and of preventive maintenance and inspection techniques as applied to fuel distribution and storage systems.
2. Knowledge of the troubleshooting, maintenance, and repair of electrical components such as electric motors, disconnect switches, starters, contactors, solenoids, and magnetic switches.
3. Knowledge of safety regulations, procedures, and practices.
4. Skill in calibration of fuel dispensing systems and tank and pressure gauges.
5. Skill in techniques used to measure, cut, thread, join, and fit piping and tubing.
6. Ability to analyze deficiencies and diagnose malfunctions of system components such as automatic control valves,pumps, flow meters, etc.

What are the conditions of employment for this role?

1. You will be required to handle and safeguard sensitive information in accordance with applicable US and UK laws, rules and regulations.
2. You may be required to travel by military and/or civilian aircraft and you may also be required to travel to the US or other country, in the performance of official duties or attend necessary training, this position may also be coded as mission essential.
3. You will be required to complete a 6-month probationary period.
4. Overtime may be required, and you may be assigned other duties not included in this position description, but that are appropriate to the grade and skill set of the incumbent.
5. Must be able to communicate effectively both orally and in writing.
6. Shift work may be required.
7. The employee may be required to work other than normal duty hours, which may include evening, weekends, and/or holidays.
8. Overtime and/or emergency overtime may be required, but cannot be guaranteed and should not be expected.
9. The work may require that the employee be certified in the use of a respirator.
10. The work may require that the employee be certified or able to be certified as qualified for entry into hazardous liquid fuel tanks for inspection, cleaning, and repair.
11. Your hours of work will be 39 hours per week on an as rostered schedule (Mon-Fri) where start & end times may be modified due to mission needs and in accordance with the organization’s flexible working policies.
12. The work may require the employee to drive a motor vehicle to and from work sites. An appropriate, CAT B valid UK driver’s license may be required for the position.
13. A physical will be required for this position. This will be conducted at RAF Lakenheath.
