Neway International are seeking two Learning Mentors to join our client based with Somerset Council.
Location: Remote
Hours: 37 per week
Start Date: 04/03/2026
Duration: 4 weeks
Pay Rate: £240.00 PAYE per day / £326.88 Umbrella per day

About the Client
Somerset Council’s Children, Families & Education Service is committed to improving educational outcomes for vulnerable pupils. The Virtual School and Learning Support Teams work collaboratively with schools, families and professionals to ensure children and young people receive the right support to engage, progress and thrive.
The Role
Learning Mentors are required to support a temporary peak in workload, promoting positive educational engagement for pupils with a range of vulnerabilities. This includes young people in Years 12–13 who are NEET, children with SEND, and pupils requiring targeted intervention. The postholders will track progress, support transitions, strengthen attendance and engagement, and work closely with teachers, families and multi‑agency partners to remove barriers to learning.
Key Responsibilities
Promote positive educational outcomes for NEET young people, pupils with SEND and those with wider vulnerabilities.
Record, track and analyse pupil progress, attendance and engagement data across corporate systems.
Work directly with teachers and educational settings to support transitions and encourage sustained attendance.
Develop and deliver tailored intervention plans in collaboration with locality teams and education providers.
Provide targeted academic, social and emotional support to pupils.
Act as a decision‑maker regarding funding allocation in specific contexts.
Liaise with families and professionals to overcome barriers to learning and ensure support plans are implemented.
Adhere to policies relating to Health & Safety, Child Protection, Equality and Diversity.
Prepare pupils for successful learning in mainstream and specialist environments and promote awareness of educational and vocational pathways.
Candidate Requirements
Experience supporting vulnerable pupils, including SEND, NEET or those with complex needs.
Strong communication, engagement and relationship‑building skills.
Ability to analyse data and maintain accurate records.
Experience delivering targeted interventions.
Knowledge of safeguarding, equality and educational support frameworks.
Ability to work remotely and manage workload independently.
