We are seeking a skilled individual to join a premier team of Maintenance Mechanic's at the 100 Civil Engineer Squadron, Royal Air Force (RAF) Mildenhall, United Kingdom.
The primary duties is to provide sheet metal mechanic, carpentry, and masonry work in construction, installing, maintaining, repairing and modifying structures and items requiring close tolerance fit, structural soundness, fine finishes, and decorative effects.
You will be responsible for planning and laying out work from blueprints, sketches, drawings, specifications and work orders in the construction & maintenance of installation facilities. You will develop patterns, cuts, forms, joins, assemble and install items and systems which have combined straight and curved edges or irregular curves, angles and planes. You will also independently apply skilled methods, techniques, and advanced shop mathematics to construct, install, repair and modify a wide variety of structures.
The role involves performing masonry tasks involved in the maintenance, repair, alteration & construction or interior and exterior surfaces & structures. You will be responsible for using power & hand tools & equipment, whilst following established safety rules and regulations.
Qualifications:
- NVQ/City and Guilds Level 2 certificate in appropriate discipline (such as Carpentry, Sheet Metal Fabrication or Masonry) & 1 year specialized experience as per the key skills required

What are the Key Skills required for this role?
1. Knowledge of carpentry & sheet metal work methods and techniques; & masonry techniques when using brick, block, & stone.
2. Knowledge of safety regulations & environmental standards & regulations, procedures, & policies related to records maintenance & documentation.
3. Knowledge of advanced shop mathematics to plan, compute, and lay out complex projects.
4. Skill in cutting & shaping to complete comers; constructing, installing, repairing, & modifying structures; formulating plans & templates involving straight & curved edges; developing patterns to include geometric projection & triangulation; setting-up, operating, & maintaining a variety of precision equipment and power and hand tools/equipment; & fabricating complex items from a variety of materials.
5. Ability to inspect and evaluate structural damage to sheet metal systems sufficient to plan and accomplish repairs; produce finished products with precise fits, accurate dimensions, structural soundness, and acceptable appearance; and perform decorative brickwork through placement of brick of different colors to create various designs.
6. Ability to read and interpret complex blueprints, diagrams, and communicate effectively both orally and in writing.
What are the conditions of employment for this role?
1. You will be required to handle and safeguard sensitive information in accordance with applicable US and UK laws, rules and regulations.
2. You may be required to travel by military and/or civilian aircraft and you may also be required to travel to the US or other country, in the performance of official duties or attend necessary training, this position may also be coded as mission essential.
3. You will be required to complete a 6-month probationary period
4. Overtime may be required, and you may be assigned other duties not included in this position description, but that are appropriate to the grade and skill set of the incumbent.
5. Must hold a valid UK category B driving license.
6. Shift work may be required. Will be required to train/guide lower grade (or other trades) military and civilian employees.
7. May be required to be certified to work with hazardous materials.
8. May be required to work other than normal duty hours, which may include evenings, weekends, and/or holidays.
9. Emergency overtime may be required.
10. A physical examination is required for this position. The work requires bending, kneeling, standing, and stooping. On-site work typically requires crawling, climbing on ladders, scaffolds, and roof tops. Work encompasses strenuous physical exertion when bending and shaping the more complex items in handling larger and bulkier material. Requires physical effort which includes prolonged standing on production lines; climbing up and down ladders; working in cramped and awkward positions while installing items; and reaching, lifting, and bending while using hand and powered tools in uncomfortable positions for extended periods. Is frequently required to perform heavy lifting up to 90 pounds in carrying bricks, block, stone, mortar, cement, and sand.
12.Your hours of work will be 39.00 hours per week on an as fixed schedule where start & end times may be modified due to mission needs and in accordance with the organization’s flexible working policies.
NOTE: You will require a security clearance and a right to work in the UK.
