An opportunity has arisen within the Theatre and SSD Directorate for the Deputy General Manager. This role is to work closely with the General Manager across all sites to support and lead the services that make up the directorate.

The post holder will work with the relevant Clinical Directors, Clinical
Leads, General Managers, Operational Managers, Heads of Service and
Matrons, to ensure the provision of high-quality patient care and the
efficient use of resources.


Base Location: Bournemouth

Interview Date: 3rd March 2026

To be managerially responsible for a defined portfolio of services within the Directorate.

To support the daily operational delivery of the Directorates.

To deputise for the General Manager.

UHD are investing, developing and transforming Trust services in line with the New Hospital Programme. As part of this, some services may move site this year or next, either temporarily or permanently. Recruiting Managers will be happy to answer any service-specific questions at interview.

If a role or service relocates as part of a planned move, excess mileage will not be reimbursed. Travel from home to the new work base will be classed as a normal commute. Any other changes will be managed under Trust or national terms and conditions.

• To be responsible for ensuring that within all specific work areas all local and national performance targets and objectives are met.
• To provide and receive highly complex and sensitive information, then effectively present the information to large and multiple teams some of which may be resistant to hearing the information or charge.
• To be responsible for ensuring the operational delivery of services; leading and effectively implementing change management initiatives to improve service provision.
• To influence the strategic development and service improvement of services within the agreed portfolio, in conjunction with the Clinical Directors, General Manager and Nursing teams.
• To participate in strategic development and service improvement of other services across the Directorate in conjunction with the General Managers and relevant Clinical Directors, Clinical Leads and Heads of Department, leading and delivering on specific projects as required.
• The portfolio may change in line with the Deputy General Manager’s personal development programme and the needs of the services across the Directorate.
