Be clinically competent, with up to date theoretical and clinical knowledge around Endoscopy and Decontamination. To lead on JAG accreditation inspections and annual reviews, with support from endoscopy leadership team. To horizon-scan and lead on the ongoing development of the JAG accreditation standards and evidence requirements and keeping leadership team aware of relevant changes to guidance. In collaboration with the endoscopy leadership team, ensure the Endoscopy service complies with the requirements of JAG and escalate non-compliance to senior team. To be an active member of the Endoscopy user and quality assurance group, providing assurance and updates relating to learning from incidents, current project work and JAG updates. Be visible, accessible and approachable in the clinical area to the clinical team, patients, service users and their carer. Promoting a compassionate culture of care. Be a positive and inspirational role model to ensure that clinical expertise and practice is enhanced. To be innovative; enthusiastic and provide leadership; guidance and advice to staff on operational and professional issues. To promote an open, honest and transparent culture. To ensure high standards of nursing care are given and maintained and to act when standards are not being maintained. Ensure the delivery of safe care within a challenging and changing clinical environment, using persuasion and negotiation skills to safeguard the quality and consistency of healthcare. To use non-medical prescribing qualification to appropriately prescribe medication for endoscopy patients within scope of practice, following polices and guidance. Ensure protocols, guidelines, policies and procedures are adhered to. Monitor and evaluate standards of care provided by the clinical team in accordance with the UK Law, Nursing and Midwifery Council, Trust and EU guidelines. Proactively addressing any reduction in standards. For example, by enabling reflective review at staff handover, bringing staff together to review clinical and workforce data, developing and delivering outcomes agreed via action plans. Give direct guidance on clinical work and provide regular feedback to the clinical team on standards of nursing care provided to, and experienced by, patients and service users e.g. providing feedback at the end of each interaction with staff members, at the end of the shift or in staff handover. Lead on quality improvements and the continuous development of practice as agreed by the Associate Director of Nursing. Develop programmes of robust clinical and professional supervision and support with the aim of motivating and inspiring staff and increasing job satisfaction. Lead serious untoward incident or complaint investigations as required by the Risk Management Department and ensure all action plans devised following serious untoward incident or complaint investigations are achieved. Provide clinical advice to the Multidisciplinary Team with the aim of further developing responsive, effective high-quality services. Bring to the immediate attention of the ADN and Senior Team, any issues, which are impeding the provision of an efficient or high-quality service, adhering to the escalation policy and the Trusts Incident reporting as relevant. Link and liaise with the Safeguarding Team on safeguarding issues to recognise and respond appropriately and effectively to concerns. Link with the Trust Band 7s to address corporate issues within the Division as necessary. To identify future leaders and actively manage succession planning within your own area. Ensure department has appropriate link nurses and offer support in undertaking that role. Under the direction of the GM bring forward to the Directorate Management Team budget proposals to enable the delivery of service plans and which reflect appropriate value for money. To be responsible for any specific budget areas delegated by the GM ensuring they stay within budget and to support the GM in co-ordinating budgets and financial plans for the services. Work with managers to ensure budget balance and identification of appropriate CIP schemes. To work in collaboration with all staff in the Endoscopy service to ensure that the business plans are fulfilled and that there is adherence to the budget. To analyse, monitor and manage patient activity and other service performance in a way that complies with National, Regional or local standards, targets and performance contracts and liaising with GM as appropriate. To produce reports on financial, contractual and performance as necessary. Where required, to manage relevant staff within service areas in such a way that contracts and targets are delivered. Participate in Trust and Division wide programmes that contribute to the modernisation of patient services. To ensure an appropriate skill mix when planning rotas, delegating tasks, etc. To manage human and other resources effectively within budget allocation. To supervise and deploy staff where and when necessary to meet the continuing needs of the services. To undertake annual appraisals for team members. Ensuring staff have meaningful personal development reviews and access to the relevant clinical training. To lead on the recruitment and selection of staff in line with Trust policy, within own area. To attend and participate in meetings as required, including providing feedback and disseminating information as appropriate. To utilise information systems to plan and forecast future needs and ensure appropriate action. To monitor sickness, absence and competence issues and implement Trust policies, e.g. managing ill health, capability To ensure systems are in place for risk assessment and minimisation, including promoting a no blame culture in order that incidents and near misses are reported. To manage and participate in the investigation of incidents/complaints as required, including preparing detailed reports/letters to complainants. To identify training needs for the department team and collaborate with service clinical educator to support development of team, mentorship and preceptorship. To ensure the clinical learning environment is conducive to effective learning. To create and maintain networks beyond the department, sharing good practice and information. To promote and lead Patient and Public Involvement strategies in the clinical area. To ensure patient information related to the department is accurate, up-to date and accessible for patients. To participate in research and the development of initiatives in practice and encourage others. To identify the need for, participate in and support others to participate in, audit, ensuring agreed results are implemented. Responsible for implementing effective systems, control processes and risk management arrangements in line with the clinical and corporate governance strategy for the Directorate. Support the monitoring of compliance with internal and external governance and best practice requirements in the service. Support conflict resolution from patients, staff, suppliers, other internal and external service providers and partner organisations in the service. To participate as appropriate in the proper investigation of patient complaints or complaints from other users of the service, drafting of responses as necessary and taking identified corrective actions. Ensure all action plans are completed and implemented appropriately. To support the education of staff by encouraging learning from complaints to ensure the highest quality of patient care is delivered. To support the systems of incident reporting and education of staff following incidents and adverse events. Maintain and develop an environment and culture that improves health, safety and security. Regularly assesses risks to health, safety and security using the results to promote and improve practice. Support a culture in which individuals feel able to report incidents and that learning takes place from all incidents and complaints. Ensure Risk Registers are updated monthly for the Endoscopy Department Ensure there are robust systems in place to evaluate, provide constructive feedback and when necessary, address behaviours and practice at individual, team and ward levels. Work alongside all members of the team in the provision of direct care to patients to enable a culture of high challenge and high support to flourish. For example, the development and review of patient care plans and discharge planning. Work alongside healthcare students to ensure that the student placement area meets all required NMC, HPC and Local Education Provider Standards.
