ADVERT - PART TIME CARETAKER/HANDYPERSON
Herewith information on the part time (17hrs a week over 3 days) position our charity has available for a Caretaker/Handyperson. Job Description and Person Specification available.
Closing date for receipt of applications is 5pm on 27th February 2026 with interviews provisionally scheduled for week commencing Monday 9th March 2026 in Toxteth Town Hall.
Start date is provisionally Monday 23rd March 2026 for inductions/ employment contract/DBS checks etc
The role is offered on a permanent contract, subject to funding, and is subject to a probationary period initially of 3 months which can be extended.

Job Title: Caretaker/Handyperson
Location: Toxteth Town Hall Community Resource Centre, 15 High Park Street, Liverpool
Hours: Part time – 17 hrs per week – initially shifts are:
Mon: Open 8.15am – 9.30am and return 3.15pm – 6.00pm (includes a 10 min paid break)
Tues: 8.15am – 6.00pm (incl 30 min unpaid break)
Wed: 8.15am – 12pm
Note: This shift may require flexibility upon bookings of User Groups and could include an ad-hoc Saturday daytime.
Wages: £12.60 per hr = salary paid weekly by bacs, rising annually in line with the Real Living Wage to £13.45 from 1/4/26
Required to cover for other staffs sick/holiday leave.

Responsible to: Manager
Purpose of post: To ensure that the Centre and its grounds are maintained as an accessible, secure, safe and clean environment to facilitate usage of the building
Duties:
Ensuring closing/opening of the building to facilitate the Centre use and operations.
Monitoring security of the building including operation of the alarm systems, reporting any problems to the Manager, and liaising with fire alarm, gas, electric and other service contractors
Acting as the one of two key holders and attending the building out of hours in the event of alarm activation and emergency works i.e., window boarded up etc.
Identify any needs for repairs, maintenance and servicing requirements, reporting to the Manager and liaising with and overseeing work by the relevant contractors – obtaining quotes where necessary.
Identify and undertake minor repair works and ensuring that they are carried out within cost limits agreed by the Manager.
Upkeep of the building and grounds including Community Centre, Carpark and Community Garden, both internally and externally e.g., weeding, mowing, clearing accessible guttering, litter cleaning, cleaning accessible windows, changing light bulbs, cold weather measures etc.
Ensuring health & safety requirements in the Centre working closely with the Manager including completing documentation, risk assessments and facilitating service contractors. Induct new organisations/hire groups to the Centre on Health and Safety
Keeping accurate records of repair works, filing service sheets, reporting health & safety issues, reports incidents and accidents, managing storage items etc.
Checking stock and informing Manager of required equipment, materials etc and purchase/order as necessary.
Will be required to cover reception desk on occasion and instruct visitors to appropriate organisations in the Centre.
Undertake any required training requirements associated with the post and the charity’s training requirements for personnel.
Any other tasks that is appropriate to achieve the purpose of the post
PERSON SPECIFICATION:
1. Previous experience in a caretaker/handyperson or similar role in a workplace setting
2. Experience of managing Health and Safety in a workplace and compliance
3. Experience of identifying repair/maintenance work and working with/along side external contractors
4. Experience of undertaking minor repair works and safely using appropriate hand and power tools and materials
5. Experience of managing stock/materials and equipment and resources efficiently
6. Excellent communication skills
7. Excellent problem solving skills
8. Excellent time management skills
9. Excellent organisational skills
10. Health and Safety in the Workplace Level 2 and First Aid in the Workplace are desirable but training will be provided if not current in these qualifications
The successful candidate will be required to have a satisfactory basic DBS check and undertake Safeguarding training.
