We're looking for a Commercial Director to join our commercial team based in London.



Location: Central London

Hours: 37.5 hours per week

The construction business contributes c.40% of the group revenue and has ambitious plans for further growth through growth in market share driven by an increased footprint in chosen strategic sectors, further deepening client relationships and targeted geographic expansion. As a national builder with a network of regional offices, Kier can ensure that every project contributes to the local economy, utilising local skills and drawing on the local supply chain.



The London & Thames Valley region provides a client focused service that delivers quality construction projects in a safe, professional, and sustainable manner. Utilising extensive experience of working with both public and private sector clients in all markets, however is differentiated by issues such as access and inner city logistics, façade retention, the impact of noise, complex ground conditions, contamination, existing structures, complex facades, and technically challenging building services.



The role will provide strategic commercial leadership across the geography of London and Thames Valley region, accountable for creating and implementing the commercial strategy to underpin and grow the regional business plan and the national strategy of the Construction business. The region generates revenues of c.£300m per annum with up to 25 projects in pre-construction and on site at any one time. The region has ambitious plans to grow to c.£450m+ in the medium term by establishing and growing our presence in core and London specific sectors. This is key for the Kier Group to deliver our national strategy whilst ensuring true ‘Discipline at scale'.



What will you be responsible for?

As a Commercial Director, you'll be working within the commercial team, supporting them in delivering multi-million pound schemes.

Your day to day will include:

-Creating and implementing a commercial strategy to underpin both the Business and AOP Plan for the region aligned with the national strategy of the Kier Construction business.

-Take a highly visible and active role in ensuring we select the right work, have commercially dynamic bid strategies, and provide robust challenge throughout the process, ensuring ‘net' cost is accurate and benchmarked.

-Lead a strong Commercial delivery performance, ensuring robust dynamic project strategies are in place for every project, driving the execution of the national procurement strategy and leveraging our scale by excellent demand planning and cross project procurement.

-Maximise opportunity and minimise risk across the whole project life cycle of pre-construction, delivery and post contract ensuring compliance with all group standards and governance. Provide robust challenge and solutions to the business to deliver superior commercial outcomes and improved efficiency of the business unit.

-Accountable for the resolution of contractual issues both client and supply chain facing including where necessary early intervention to ensure claims are intelligently presented and supported to secure value entitlement and where necessary own interventions to resolve major disputes or challenges (pre-construction, delivery, and post contract disputes).



What are we looking for?

This role of Commercial Director is great for you if you have:

-A demonstrable track record of leading a large portfolio of construction projects with strong front-end experience, preferably with proven experience in the London developer market.

-A deep construction contractual knowledge and strong broad negotiation and influencing skills with evidence of negotiating favourable terms successfully and ensuring the full risk profile of projects are understood.

-Demonstrable experience in the design and implementation of strategic enterprise-wide change.

-Evidence and experience in leading the resolution of complex disputes.

-Professionally qualified with MIRS/ CIOB or equivalent.
