SEN Teaching Assistant
Primary School - East Manchester

Contract type: Full-time, long-term supply (Monday-Friday, 08:30-15:30, term-time)
Daily rate: £105 per day
Start: ASAP

A supportive and inclusive primary school in East Manchester is seeking a committed SEN Teaching Assistant to join their team on a full-time basis. This role involves supporting pupils with complex additional needs, including non-verbal communication, and will require someone comfortable with personal care.

This is a rewarding opportunity for a calm, compassionate SEN TA who is passionate about making a meaningful difference to children who require high levels of support.

About the Role

You will be working closely with pupils across the primary age range who have autism and complex needs, providing tailored 1:1 or small-group support to help them engage with learning, communicate effectively, and feel safe and supported within the school environment.

Key Responsibilities
- Provide consistent SEN support throughout the school day, adapting approaches to meet individual needs.
- Support non-verbal pupils using communication tools such as PECS, visual timetables, Makaton, or AAC (where appropriate).
- Assist with personal care, including toileting, with dignity, patience, and sensitivity.
- Support emotional regulation, routines, transitions, and sensory needs.
- Encourage engagement with learning activities and positive interaction with peers.
- Work collaboratively with class teachers, the SENCO, and external professionals to follow EHCPs and individual support plans.

The Ideal Candidate
- Experience supporting children with autism, learning disabilities, or complex SEN (school or specialist setting).
- Confident and comfortable supporting non-verbal pupils.
- Calm, resilient, and nurturing, with a strong child-centred approach.
- Willing and able to carry out personal care duties.
- Able to work effectively as part of a team and communicate clearly with staff.
- Full-time availability and the right to work in the UK.

Desirable (but not essential)
- PECS, Makaton, BSL or AAC training
- Level 2 or Level 3 Supporting Teaching & Learning qualification
- MAPA, Team-Teach, or other de-escalation training
