A welcoming and inclusive primary school in East Manchester is seeking a dedicated SEMH Teaching Assistant to support pupils in Year 3 with social, emotional and mental health (SEMH) needs. This full-time role is ideal for someone who is calm, resilient, and passionate about helping children overcome barriers to learning.
About the Role
You will be working closely with Year 3 pupils who require additional emotional and behavioural support to remain engaged in learning and regulate their emotions throughout the school day. The role may involve 1:1 and small group support, helping pupils to develop positive coping strategies, build confidence, and improve their behaviour for learning.
Key Responsibilities
- Provide targeted support to pupils with SEMH needs, promoting emotional regulation and positive behaviour.
- Support pupils during lessons, transitions, and unstructured times such as break and lunchtime.
- Implement behaviour support strategies and positive reinforcement approaches in line with the school's policies.
- Help pupils develop social skills, resilience, and self-esteem.
- Support de-escalation during periods of heightened emotion, using calm and consistent strategies.
- Work closely with the class teacher, SENCO, and pastoral staff to follow individual behaviour and support plans.
The Ideal Candidate
- Experience supporting children with SEMH, challenging behaviour, or additional needs in a school or similar setting.
- Calm, patient and resilient, with the ability to remain consistent under pressure.
- Confident in using positive behaviour management and de-escalation techniques.
- Able to build strong, trusting relationships with pupils and staff.
- Full-time availability and the right to work in the UK.
Desirable (but not essential)
- Experience working in KS2, particularly Year 3
- Team-Teach, MAPA or other behaviour management training
- Level 2 or Level 3 Supporting Teaching & Learning qualification
This is a fantastic opportunity to make a real difference to pupils who need strong, positive role models and consistent support. If you're passionate about supporting children with SEMH needs and are available to start immediately, we'd love to hear from you.
What we offer
