Summary
Job Overview
-Lead the commissioning function for Solar PV (rooftop and ground-mount) and Battery Energy Storage Systems (BESS) projects across the UK. Ensure all systems are commissioned to the highest standards of quality, electrical compliance, and performance, delivering projects on time and in line with customer expectations. Act as the technical authority during commissioning, liaising closely with project execution teams, and motivating a skilled team to achieve excellence in safety, quality, and customer satisfaction.
Main Duties
-Commissioning Leadership
-Own the end-to-end commissioning process for Solar PV and BESS projects, ensuring compliance with design specifications, electrical standards, and manufacturer requirements.
-Develop and implement commissioning plans, checklists, and quality assurance protocols.
-Lead and mentor commissioning engineers and technicians, fostering a culture of precision, safety, and accountability.
Quality & Electrical Compliance
-Ensure all installations meet BS 7671, G99/G100, DNO requirements, and manufacturer guidelines.
-Oversee functional testing, performance verification, and system optimisation (inverters, EMS/BMS, protection systems).
-Drive root-cause analysis for any commissioning issues and implement corrective actions promptly.
Project Coordination
-Work closely with Project Managers and site teams to align commissioning activities with project timelines and milestones.
-Provide technical input during design reviews and pre-installation planning to avoid commissioning delays.
-Coordinate with QHSE to ensure safe systems of work and compliance with RAMS and permits.
Customer Focus
-Act as the technical point of contact for clients during commissioning phases, providing clear updates and confidence in delivery.
-Ensure handover documentation, test reports, and performance certificates are accurate and delivered promptly.
-Support client training and familiarisation sessions for commissioned systems.
Team Development & Motivation
-Build and maintain a high-performing commissioning team with strong technical and problem-solving skills.
-Identify training needs and arrange OEM certifications for engineers and technicians.
-Promote a collaborative and proactive approach across commissioning and project execution teams.
What we are looking for
-Extensive experience in commissioning Solar PV and BESS systems (rooftop and ground-mount).
-Strong electrical background with proven knowledge of HV/LV systems, grid compliance, and protection schemes.
-Demonstrable experience in leading commissioning teams and delivering projects on time and to specification.
-Familiarity with SCADA, EMS/BMS systems, and performance testing tools.
-Exceptional attention to detail and commitment to quality.
-Strong leadership and team motivation skills.
-Excellent communication and stakeholder management.
-Ability to work under pressure and meet tight deadlines without compromising safety or quality.
