Summary

Are you creative, digitally savvy, and passionate about connecting with our communities? We’re looking for a Communications Officer who can bring energy and innovation to our media and digital presence.

This is your chance to shape how we communicate, build trust, and deliver transparency.

What You Will Do

Be the voice of the OPCC – handle media enquiries, draft press releases, and advise senior leaders.
Create engaging content across social media, our website, and community alert platforms.
Help to design eye-catching graphics, videos, and infographics for campaigns and publications.
Monitor media coverage and social analytics – spot trends and make improvements.
Support events, draft speeches, and manage internal communications.
Work with sensitive information and represent the OPCC at external forums.

What We’re Looking For

You’ll be an experienced communicator with a strong background in digital and social media. You will be someone who can craft compelling stories and communicate clearly across multiple platforms. You will be someone who is able to develop strong relationships with the media and deal with complex and sensitive requests in a timely way. Creativity is key – you’ll have some graphic design skills and the ability to produce impactful graphic design content and short videos.

We want someone who is highly organised and adaptable, who thrives under pressure and manages competing priorities with ease. You’ll be confident interpreting analytics to identify trends and improvements, and meticulous when it comes to editorial and proofreading.

Proficiency in Microsoft Office and tools like Hootsuite is essential, along with an understanding of innovative ways to engage with our communities.

Above all, you’ll need to be a self-starter who takes ownership of tasks and delivers on time.

It would be an advantage if you have knowledge of relevant policies and legislation affecting the OPCC, but don’t worry if you haven’t as we can teach you this. The key thing for us is our values, which we live by … Ambition, Compassion, Enabling, and Integrity & Trust. If these resonate with you, you’ll fit right in.

The closing date is Monday 12 January 2026 at midday, so don’t miss this deadline. Interviews will be week commencing 26 January 2026 – let us know what’s best for you.

Please note this role is on a two year fixed term
