Applications are invited for the role of Service Manager Business Development with Orkney Islands Council’s Marine Services.
You should have substantial experience in a business and marketing field, ideally maritime related, and a proven successful business track record including, experience of developing and implementing marketing and business development strategies.
You will be required to develop and co-ordinate the Department’s Business Development Strategy for the range of harbours within the ports estate, including the Oil Port of Scapa Flow which handles a range of tanker traffic to both the Flotta Oil Terminal and ship to ship transfers within Scapa Flow and the harbours of Kirkwall and Stromness which support a vibrant cruise ship trade as well as passenger ro-ro ferries and general cargo ships, fishing traffic and the marine leisure industry. Additionally, you will be required to undertake direct and indirect sales of port related services and advise the Harbour Master and Council leadership on market trends in all related service areas.
You will be required to demonstrate positive growth in sales revenue as a result of the business development strategy.
You should hold a qualification at SCQF 8/9 i.e. SVQ4, HND, General Degree, Higher Apprenticeship, Technical Apprenticeship, OR, where this is not held, you should have a minimum of 5 years previous relevant experience.
The post will be based in the Harbour Authority Building, Scapa, or other office accommodation in Kirkwall in the Orkney Islands, and the postholder would be expected to travel both nationally and internationally in the support of the business development strategy.
Ability to travel efficiently and effectively between various work locations within Orkney to meet the operational requirements of the Service.
