The Neighbourhood Services Operational Team is part of the Neighbourhood Services and Transport Division, within the Directorate for Environment and Housing.
Our remit is broad reaching covering the vast majority of the Vale of Glamorgan Councils frontline services such as:
Manage and maintain play areas, skate parks and multi-use games areas.
Maintaining our feature parks to the very highest standard possible
Manage and maintain Recreation grounds (football, rugby, cricket) and sports bookings
Manage and maintain Jenner Park stadium (including the booking process).
Manage and maintain highways tree stock.
Maintain highway strategic and non-strategic verges (including conservation areas).
Coastal resort management, beach safety & lifeguards
Cleansing, fly tipping, graffiti/flyposting
Litter bin emptying, opening/closing and cleansing of public conveniences.
Undertake contracts for internal and external customers.

About the role
Pay Details: Grade 4 SPC 5-7 £25,583 - £26,403 per Year, £13.26 - £13.69 Per Hour
Hours of Work / Working Pattern: 37 hours per week (Mon – Fri)
Main Place of Work: Multiple park and open space locations
Description:
The Neighbourhood Services Operational Team are looking for someone to become part of the play area / hard landscaping team. The main purpose of this post will be to carry out reactive / scheduled maintenance and inspections of facilities within the Neighbourhood Services Operational Division. This individual will work with and contribute to our team, a strong work ethic is essential. The successful candidates must have experience of maintenance of Parks facilities. You must also have the ability to work on your own initiative, to communicate well with staff and have the ability to meet deadlines. The post holder will be expected to take responsibility for resources of a significant nature.
Duties will include:
To undertake playground, play equipment, alley gate and other Neighbourhood assets and equipment safety inspections and maintenance, in accordance with guidelines and to maintain records of these works.
Keep and maintain high quality inspection and maintenance data.
To be able to operate a wide variety of power tools and operate self-propelled ride on machinery as necessary and to be familiar with the set up and maintenance of such machines.
To supervise any operatives under your control in conjunction with the Playground & Landscaping Officer and to be responsible for the allocation of duties and work rotas.
The successful candidates must have the ability to accept responsibility for staff and resources.
About you
You will need:
Good interpersonal skills and ability to communicate effectively is essential.
You must be able to demonstrate an understanding and working knowledge of all plant and machinery related tasks.
The post holder will be required to be trained or accept training in the industry standard for Play Inspectors.
You must enjoy working as part of a team, supporting both your senior and junior colleagues, have strong communication skills and a level of fitness that enables you to work outside and be mobile for large parts of the day.
Show willingness to assist and support the others together with a commitment to meeting the objectives of the service.
Ability to communicate effectively with staff
Be a highly motivated individual with the ability to be flexible and responsive to changes in priorities and demands
Be able to deal with the general public in a polite and courteous manner.
It is an essential requirement for this position that the candidate holds a full UK driving license.
