Crynodeb

Cloughside College is a hospital school that works with young people (aged 11-19) who cannot attend their own school due to mental health conditions. We are there for students at a time when they need us the most, ensuring that they continue to have access to education as part of a wraparound service to support their recovery.

The school operates across two main sites: Prestwich Hospital (close to Junction 17 of the M62) which hosts Junction 17 and the Gardener Unit (a medium secure facility) and Fairfield Hospital (Bury), which hosts the Hope Unit. Work is also underway to extend our community provision to enhance Section 19 education, working in partnership with Bury Council.

Effective partnership working is an essential part of this role. Working with young people with complex needs, we are part of a wider system of care and support and our Headteacher will be instrumental in ensuring a joined up and tailored approach that supports the best outcomes.

The school is in a very strong position, and we can make decisions that are firmly focused on what is best for our students, while always being mindful of future strategic changes in the sector. And our most important asset is our team of dedicated, positive and expert staff who deliver high quality teaching and learning every day. We are passionate advocates for professional development and succession planning, and we will look to our new Headteacher to build on this commitment, leading colleagues with fairness and compassion and supporting them to excel in what they do.

We don’t have a prescriptive view of the type of school that you are currently working in. We are interested in your leadership skills: how you enable those around you to shine whilst providing the strategic direction that allows the school to adapt and respond to changes in the sector. We operate in a very fluid environment, with an ever-changing school population, so flexibility and an agile approach is key.

In turn, you’ll discover that this is a leadership role with a difference. More than just a headship, you’ll be part of a team that can change the lives of very vulnerable young people. What we do matters it’s an incredibly rewarding place to be.

Closing date: Monday 12th January (noon)

The school is committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children, young people and vulnerable adults and expects all staff to share this commitment.

The appointment is subject to a satisfactory enhanced DBS and barred list check; two satisfactory references; occupational health report and right to work in the UK. We will conduct an online search of shortlisted candidates in line with KCSIE 2025.

In line with safer recruitment, please ensure that your application covers your full employment history (including months and years) and there is a reason noted for any gaps in employment. Successful candidates will be asked to provide relevant references for the past ten years and character references will not be accepted.

CVs will not be accepted.
