Do you thrive in a fast paced environment?

Can you use professional judgement to make well reasoned decisions?

Does working as part of a team appeal to you?

The Assessment Officer is essential to the delivery of services provided by the Intelligence Assessment Team. This team is responsible for driving our daily risk management processes. Main responsibilities of the team include daily scanning, assessment, evaluation and dissemination of intelligence. This enables the Commission to identify and respond to threats, risks and harms, and to help proactively fill any known gaps in our intelligence.

The role holder will support the implementation of the intelligence cycle from collection to dissemination, with focus on evaluation, initial response and disseminating information and intelligence to the right people at the right time to encourage improved intelligence sharing. This includes assessment of complaints about charities, requests from other regulators and media scanning.

You will work in a fast-paced, customer-focussed environment where high standards of verbal and written communication are essential. You will work to agreed service levels and operational standards, be confident working in a digital environment and be comfortable working independently within a wider team.

You will need to develop a solid understanding of work across the Commission, as well as sound technical knowledge, to be able to assess concerns in an accurate and timely manner. You will also demonstrate empathy and emotional intelligence when providing responses to customers in relation to their concerns.

The main things you will be doing are:

  • Undertake assessment of concerns about charities and non-registered organisations, in line with relevant guidance, and either respond to customers or refer for appropriate follow up action as required. Issue formal regulatory advice to charities when required, adapting templates appropriately.
  • Respond to requests for information from other regulators and evaluate and record intelligence that has been gathered or shared with the Commission, on the relevant databases / documents, ensuring intelligence is disseminated to the right people at the right time and that powers are recorded appropriately.
  • Daily assessment/scanning of press cuttings, other media coverage, open source data relating to the sector and other intelligence sources, updating Commission systems as needed.
  • Undertake research and intelligence checks and produce intelligence packages to inform proactive and reactive casework.
