About the Role
Trafford Council has declared a Climate Emergency and is committed to playing its part in Addressing the Climate Crisis through delivery of its Carbon Neutral Action Plan. Work has already begun on decarbonising our own buildings and council vehicles and we are also driving action across the Borough such as building cycle infrastructure, installing electric vehicle charge points, developing low carbon heat networks, working with organisations such as businesses and schools to develop and implement climate action plans and protecting and enhancing green spaces and biodiversity. You will be part of a team developing and implementing a range of projects such as Bee Net Zero Trafford Park, the North Trafford Heat Zone, and improving our green spaces such as Longford Park and allotments. Working with a wide range of stakeholders, you will develop and implement policies, strategies and projects that will take us towards the target of becoming more climate resilient and a Net Zero Carbon emitting borough by 2038.
About you
We are seeking a dynamic climate change and sustainability expert that understands the challenges and opportunities presented by Climate Change and addressing wider sustainability issues. Your style and approach will reflect our values and behaviours: you will be committed to continually learning and improving the way you do things to ensure effective outcomes; you will work together to deliver our projects and services; you will enjoy taking personal responsibility to resolve issues and change what you do and how you do it to make a difference; you will be innovative and seek opportunities for new ways of working.
Applicants must have a degree or equivalent qualification. You will have 3 years relevant experience involving collaborative working across a range of stakeholders and a good understanding of the principles of sustainability and climate change.
The Climate Change and Sustainability Officer supports various members of the service, including the Principal Climate Change and Sustainability Officer and the Head of Service, in taking forward projects to deliver carbon neutrality and climate resilience. The post has confirmed funding for 2 years, and the service is currently exploring options for continued funding beyond that.

The Sustainability & Climate Change Service sits within the Growth and Regulatory Services Directorate; based at the recently rebuilt Town Hall in Stretford, and you will report to the Principal Climate Change and Sustainability Officer. A flexible hours and working policy is in place although some unsocial hours working may be required on occasions.
