Reports to: Estates Manager
Location: Royal Victoria Infirmary (with occasional travel to other Mitie locations)
Working Pattern: Shift pattern with on-call duties
1 in 5 Saturday & SundayThe next week get Thursday and Friday off
Job PurposeTo lead a team of technicians and contractors in delivering planned and reactive maintenance services across hospital buildings and systems, ensuring high standards of safety, quality, and efficiency.
Key Responsibilities
-Supervise and support technicians and contractors in maintaining building systems (electrical, mechanical, plumbing).
-Ensure full compliance with health and safety legislation, hospital policies, and technical standards, including conducting risk assessments and promoting a safety-first culture.
-Plan and allocate work, order materials, and ensure safe storage.
-Monitor job progress and ensure high standards of work and productivity.
-Liaise with hospital staff and resolve maintenance-related issues promptly and professionally.
-Conduct site surveys and report on building conditions.
-Maintain accurate records and complete administrative tasks.
-Train and guide staff on systems, procedures and safe working practices.
-Participate in the on-call rota and shift cover as required.
Person SpecificationEssential
-Recognised apprenticeship in electrical or mechanical engineering.
-BTEC or City & Guilds qualification.
-At least 5 years' post-apprenticeship experience, including supervisory duties.
-Strong technical knowledge of building services.
-Good communication and basic IT skills.
-Physically fit and able to work at height or in confined spaces.
Desirable
-HNC/HND in a relevant field.
-Experience in hospital or facilities management environments.
Other Requirements
-Must follow Mitie and hospital health & safety policies.
-Maintain confidentiality of patient and staff information.
-May be required to work at other Mitie sites with notice.
-Must be willing to undertake further training (e.g., Authorised Person status).
