What skills and experience we're looking for

At De Aston School, we believe every student deserves the chance to thrive. As our Education Welfare Officer, you’ll play a key role in helping students overcome barriers to attendance and engagement—ensuring they feel supported, understood, and empowered.

You’ll work closely with students, families, and external agencies to:

• Investigate and follow up on absences, including home visits
• Analyse attendance data and produce actionable reports
• Lead attendance panel meetings and prepare documentation for referrals and legal proceedings
• Support students through safeguarding processes and multi-agency collaboration
• Maintain accurate records and liaise with staff to ensure attendance issues are addressed promptly

This is a varied and rewarding role at the heart of our pastoral care team.

We’re looking for someone who is:

• Qualified: A’ Levels (or equivalent) and 5 GCSEs including English and Maths
• Experienced: At least 6 months’ relevant experience in education, youth work, or welfare
• Organised and Analytical: Able to manage data, prioritise tasks, and produce clear reports
• Empathetic and Resilient: Comfortable working with young people and families, even in challenging situations
• Tech-Savvy: Confident using ICT systems (experience with Bromcom is a bonus)
• Collaborative: Able to work independently and as part of a dedicated team
• Knowledgeable: Familiar with safeguarding, attendance procedures, and multi-agency work (desirable)

What the school offers its staff

At De Aston School, we’re proud to offer:

• A genuinely welcoming and inclusive environment—staff describe us as “one big family”
• A supportive and successful pastoral team that works collaboratively to help every student thrive
• Excellent CPD and career development opportunities—we invest in your growth
• A beautiful rural location near the Lincolnshire Wolds, with easy access to the historic city of Lincoln
• A school that values work-life balance, wellbeing, and professional respect
• A strong reputation for academic success and community engagement

We’re a school that cares deeply about our students—and just as much about our staff.
