South Lanarkshire Council is looking for a motivated and professional Personnel Officer to join our Finance and Corporate Resources team supporting Education Resources. This is a varied and rewarding role, combining expertise in maximising attendance with employee relations, while contributing to wider HR policy development and service improvement.

About the Role

Reporting to a Personnel Adviser, you will provide professional advice, guidance, and support to managers, employees, and their representatives on a wide range of personnel matters. You will help ensure our policies reflect best practice, meet legislative requirements, and support the Council’s values and service plans.

Your work will involve:


    Advising managers on our Maximising Attendance Policy, helping to improve attendance and wellbeing across the organisation.
    Liaising with employees, Personnel colleagues, Occupational Health team, employee support, and trade unions to ensure a consistent, supportive approach to absence and employee relations issues.
    Providing expert advice on discipline, grievance, dignity at work, terms and conditions, and other personnel matters.
    Leading investigations and representing Personnel Services at hearings and meetings.
    Contributing to the development, implementation, and review of HR policies and procedures.
    Promoting equality, inclusion, and fairness in all aspects of service delivery.

    What We’re Looking For

    You will have a professional HR qualification and/or relevant experience in operational HR service delivery, with strong knowledge of personnel policies, employment law, and best practice. You’ll be a confident communicator with excellent organisational skills, able to manage competing priorities in a fast-paced environment. Experience in a public sector or unionised setting is an advantage.
