Crynodeb

We are looking for a motivated and dynamic individual to join our core engineering team responsible for delivering technical support to the maintenance of MOD Sail Training Craft.

The Marine Fitter will provide Marine Engineering support as part of a team of 14 staff maintaining the training fleet alongside another Marine Fitter, working to scheduled maintenance programmes and making repairs to the MOD yachts in a purpose-built engineering facility alongside Portsmouth harbour.

The Marine Fitter is directed by the Engineering Facilities Manager in the primary role to:

Proactively manage, inspect, identify and rectify any mechanical defects within the sail training fleet and associated equipment. This will involve managing planned and reactive works and ensuring that parts are ordered for immediate, routine and emergent works
The Marine Fitter will be the lead for the delivery of mechanical safety and assurance across the fleet of sail training craft and associated systems and equipment
Overhaul and maintenance of small marine diesel engines of all recognised brands up to 300 HP
Repair all auxiliary yacht systems including water systems and steering
Fix and maintain marine air conditioning and generator installations up to 15Kw output
Repair and maintenance of outboard engines up to 75 HP
Quality assurance of Sail Training Craft
Ensure the routine maintenance of engineering systems as listed in the Maintenance Schedule is carried out
Manage and operate with a good knowledge of Safety, Health, Environment and Fire (SHEF) orders, including working at height regulations, Control of Substances Hazardous to Health Regulations (COSHH), safety data sheets and use of Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) in accordance with Risk Assessments
Conduct local purchase of consumable material/tools/equipment to ensure engineering tasks are completed
Supervise and provide guidance, advice, direction and training to other staff members in the Engineering and Maintenance Department
Manage the care and operation of engineering machinery in the workshop, including maintaining staff competency and ensuring the correct use and maintenance of appropriate PPE.
