Personal Assistant/Support Worker Ref: MC/SF/1-25
Let me tell you a bit about myself, I am 13 years old (14 in September) I have Autism & ADHD. I'm generally a very happy boy but I struggle with verbal communication and rely on routines daily to keep me calm. I live with my mother and spend most of my time with her, I attend an additional support High School and I’m looking for a pa to support me with prompting and daily tasks.
I like playing games on my iPad or reading and I enjoy playing with figures and acting out scenes from movies or games. I have language in that I repeat a lot of things and can learn words/sentences but sometimes it's hard to know what I understand as I struggle with conversational communication and answering certain questions for example.
Routines make me happy as I like to know what's happening throughout the day in a certain sequence.
You will be required to support me in the evenings, Mum gives me Dinner/Bath and gets me ready for bed, you would be required to give me a Yogurt/Milk and administer my medication before bed, I have some chill out time and play on my iPad, then you would put me to bed and read me a story, it's just a case of being there to supervise. I need constant supervision as I have no sense of danger, either in the home or outside e.g. no sense of road safety.
I may need some assistance in terms of personal care but generally I just require prompts to go to the toilet/washing hands.
I’m looking for someone who’s kind, calm, and reliable to help with day-to-day tasks so ideally, you’ll be experienced in working with autistic children and have a caring friendly nature.
I can get overwhelmed easily with my autism and ADHD so a gentle, patient personality is a big plus. I have a good sense of humour and am generally very happy/affectionate but when things are tough, I need someone who can be calm and cope well under pressure. You would need to be understanding and patient on our journey of getting to know each other as my autism can make communication challenging but once I get to know someone, I am a very friendly boy.
I live in Rutherglen, so it’s important you’re comfortable working in this area. This role involves 7 hours per week, £12.60 per hour, with flexibility depending on my needs, weekday evenings between Tuesday to Thursday from 6 pm (flexible on days) and/or weekends from 10am times are flexible.
While experience with Autism is required, I’d love to work with someone who is down-to-earth, supportive, and understanding. You don’t need to be perfect — just kind, open-minded, and respectful of my needs.
If you are selected for the next stage of the recruitment process a member of the Take Control Team will be in touch to arrange the next steps.
If you are successfully hired; you will be employed directly by a Private Employer on a PAYE basis and will be entitled to all statutory rights as set out by Employment Law, such as paid holidays and statutory sick pay (where eligible).
Please note: This job is advertised by Take Control South Lanarkshire on behalf of a Personal Employer, we are not the employer or an employment/recruitment agency. Our role is to assist with the recruitment process and Employer’s responsibilities.
