An exciting opportunity has arisen for a Specialist Diabetes Podiatrists within Guys and St. Thomas’ Hospital to further develop and work within a multi-disciplinary foot team (MDfT) service for patients with diabetes in the London Boroughs of Bexley & Greenwich. This post will require working between Guys & St. Thomas’ hospital, Queen Mary’s Hospital Sidcup and Queen Elizabeth Greenwich sites.
The aim is to build on the existing MDfTs in these Boroughs to develop a South East London Diabetes Foot Network with local MDfTs operating in a hub and spoke model.
Outcomes such as the impact on in hospital length of stay and reduction in numbers of patients undergoing major and minor amputations among the diabetes population in the SE London will be measured as indicators of success.
The successful candidates must have sound knowledge and the specialist skills necessary to work in this environment working alongside other health care professionals in delivering integrated care in a multi-disciplinary model. It would be beneficial to have advanced specialist knowledge of podiatry and wound care in relation to the management of high risk diabetes patients.
• Based at Queen Marys Hospital (Sidcup) but will be timetabled to work at Queen Elizabeth Hospital ( Greenwich) and Guys & St. Thomas' hospital sites.
• To triage referral and work within in the NICE guidelines.
• To assess and treat the high risk case load with advanced wound management methods
• To build a working network with all community services to benefit patients.
• Maintain the education element and referral pathways for GPs, District Nurses, Urgent Care team
• Teaching and managing junior staff
• Data collection and reporting
Guy’s and St Thomas’ NHS Foundation Trust comprises five of the UK’s best known hospitals – Guy’s, St Thomas’, Evelina London Children’s Hospital, Royal Brompton and Harefield.
Podiatry services spreads across the Guys and St. Thomas’ hospital sites, Queen Mary's Hospital (Sidcup) and Lambeth and community.
The acute team comprises of 12 podiatrist, 1 nurse and 2 clinical assistants plus a much larger team within the Lambeth and Southwark community services.

The service will work across borders within South East London in a collaborative approach to reduce the variation in outcomes, allowing the prompt repatriation of patients and the provision of specialist care closer to home. Initially the service will operate 5 days a week, but in time will move to working 6 days a week.
