Summary


An exciting opportunity has arisen to join the Acute and General Medicine dietetic team at St Thomas' Hospital in a fixed term role as Band 6 Specialist Dietitian.

The post holder will have the opportunity to gain in-depth nutrition support experience in a specialist acute medicine and older adults role working with a wide variety of multimorbid patients experiencing complex health, social and psychological challenges. They will offer specialist dietetic input to the acute admissions ward and the older person's unit wards as well as delivering outpatient care to multimorbid older adults in both virtual and face-to-face clinics and group education sessions, often working closely with our MDT colleagues in rehabilitation. The dietitian role is well-integrated into the multidisciplinary team and offers quality improvement, audit and research opportunities through evaluating our service and collecting patient outcome data. Supervision of junior team members is available (based on experience) as well as access to our range of personal development opportunities.

The post will include covering inpatients on the acute admissions ward and older person's unit, as well as outpatient older person's clinics and patient education groups. You will need significant knowledge of dietary management of complex multimorbid patients including nutrition support and enteral nutrition in order to deliver an expert dietetic service.

The important role of nutrition is valued and well recognised by the acute medicine and ageing and health teams. The role requires close multi-disciplinary team working to provide excellent patient care including attendance to MDT meetings, patient discussions and nutrition education. Excellent communication and interpersonal skills will be required. The post also includes supporting and supervising junior staff (based on experience), students and dietetic apprentices, providing the opportunity to demonstrate and develop skills in leadership and supervision.

This role is engaged in service development, both within the acute and general medicine team and trust-wide as part of continued efforts to improve hospital catering and food and drink provision to our inpatients.

The post holders will be joining a team of over 100 Dietitians working across Guy's, St Thomas’, the Evelina Children's Hospital, and Lambeth, Southwark community services. The department has a strong commitment to research and teaching.
