We are excited to announce a vacancy for a band 6 specialist obesity dietitian to join our Tier 3 weight management service. We are looking for an experienced dietitian to join our fast paced obesity team here at GSTT. You will be playing a vital role in assessing patients living with complex obesity, including nutritional assessment, risk management, assessing psychological wellbeing, and utilising behaviour change skills.
You will join our 40-stong multidisciplinary team. Our dietitians, dietetic assistants and nutritionists lead on medical nutrition therapy, together with physicians, physiotherapists and assistants, clinical psychologists and assistants, and a brilliant admin team. You will support patients living with complex conditions, some of whom are prescribed GLP-1 receptor agonist medications. You will be supporting patients on a 1:1 basis in clinics, both face-to-face and virtual, and in groups. You will provide clinical supervision for Band 5, nutritionists and dietetic assistants. Training and support to become a supplementary prescriber will be discussed with the appointed job holder.
Your work base will be Harold Moody (Elephant and Castle) and you will be on site at least 3 days a week for face-to-face clinical work and supervision. For 2 days a week you have the option to work from home. You will be delivering online interventions, as well as delivering face-to-face clinics and groups. You will work 09:00-17:00 three days per week, and 11:30-19:30 two days, to facilitate early evening groups.
You must have a depth of experience working with patients living with obesity, including key diet and lifestyle advice, GLP1 management and knowledge of bariatric surgery. You must have a developed understanding of weight bias and stigma in both healthcare and everyday life.
Guys and St. Thomas Hospital NHS Foundation Trust (GSTT) is a centre of excellence in obesity management and weight-loss surgery. We have been providing treatment and support for severe weight problems for more than 30 years. Our multi-disciplinary team here at GSTT includes consultants, specialist dietitians, specialist nurses, pharmacists, clinical psychologists and physiotherapists.
GSTT supports staff health and wellness and there are multiple benefits to working here at GSTT. This also includes benefits such as flexible working and CPD allowance. www.guysandstthomas.nhs.uk/jobs/benefits-and-support
You will be joining a large department with over 150 dietitians and assistants, psychologists, nutrition nurses, administrators, and project and operational managers. There is a wealth of opportunity for support, learning and development.
We are committed to diversity and inclusion within our team, and very much welcome applications from all people. We strongly encourage applications from people from global majority ethnic backgrounds, and those living with disability. Almost half of the patients we care for are of Black African or Black Caribbean heritage. Our patients tell us they want the workforce "to look like them", and we strive to meet this request.
• Supporting patients with weight management, assessing nutritional intake, micronutrient status and psychological wellbeing. Clinics are a mixture of face-to-face, video and telephone.
• Strong behaviour change skills to facilitate change
• Facilitating group education for patients
• Playing a key role in MDT meetings (supporting best interest decisions).
