The Role
We are seeking a Finance Assistant to join our Business and Operations Support Team. Reporting to the Finance Manager, you will play a key role in ensuring the smooth running of our financial processes. This is an exciting opportunity for someone with strong attention to detail and a passion for working in a values-led charity environment.
Key Responsibilities
- Manage purchase ledger: processing supplier invoices and preparing payment runs
- Support sales ledger: producing and coding invoices, and carrying out credit control
- Assist with bank reconciliations, charge card processes, and audit preparation
- Provide payroll support, including processing starters and leavers, monthly payroll, and HMRC submissions
- Maintain finance system processes and support improvements
- Act as the first point of contact for finance-related queries
What We’re Looking For
Essential:
- AAT Level 2/3 or equivalent accounting qualification
- GCSEs (A–C) in Maths and English (or equivalent)
- Experience in a finance role, including accounts preparation and payroll
- Proficiency in Sage Accounts/Payroll (or similar) and Microsoft Office
- Strong organisational skills and ability to prioritise workload
- Understanding of confidentiality, GDPR, and safeguarding
- Team player with initiative and a willingness to learn
Desirable:
- Knowledge of charity accounting and SORP
- Understanding of the needs of people with learning disabilities
