Tarmac is looking for an Assistant Tax Accountanttosupport our Tax accountant in partnering with relevant key business stakeholders in order to submit accurate VAT returns in different areas.
About the Role
As the Assistant Tax Accountant, you will assist with the provision and reporting of effective financial information and management accounting at each month end and through the month as required.
Your responsibilities in this role will include (not exhaustive)
- Assisting with the production of VAT, aggregates levy, landfill tax, CIS, intrastats, EC Sales and Tied Oil returns; ensuring they are completed accurately and to deadline
- Preparing and posting of journals and payments.
- Completing high-quality balance sheet reconciliations in accordance with guidelines and timetables
- Assisting with the preparation of tax packs for the UK tax team
- Supporting the assistant manager and other team members to deliver month-end close
- Assisting with the preparation of quarterly balance sheet eeviews with business unit finance
- Supporting both internal and external audit requests/queries
- Undertaking any ad-hoc analysis or tasks as required
What we are looking for
It is essential the Assistant Tax Accountanthas relevant accounting experience and/or is actively studying towards an accountancy qualification (AAT/ACA/CIMA/ACCA) of which study support will be provided
Any prospective candidates should be able to demonstrate strong financial acumen, have intermediate to advanced excel skills essential and have the ability to work with complex data. You should be someone who can work to tight deadlines and able to escalate issues confidently, show good knowledge of accounting and financial systems and have strong attention to detail.

You will work closely with internal teams including:R2R Assistant Managers, Business Unit Finance teams, Financial Planning & Control and the UK Tax Team to name a few.
