Hays Education are working exclusively with a unique and expanding Alternative Provision (AP) based in the Cheshire countryside, offering a rare opportunity for a passionate and creative educator to join a specialist setting that blends academic learning with outdoor education and animal care. We are recruiting for a Functional Skills Teacher or Functional Skills Tutor to deliver English and Maths to small groups of learners with additional needs. This role is ideal for someone who thrives in a non-mainstream environment and is looking to make a real difference in the lives of young people. This role is available as a temp-to-perm position to ensure the right fit, or permanent from day one for the ideal candidate.

Your New Role

  • Deliver engaging and tailored Functional Skills English and Maths lessons
  • Support learners with SEND and SEMH needs in a therapeutic, nature-based setting
  • Work closely with a small, supportive team to create a nurturing learning environment
  • Teach in an outdoor setting and engage with animals as part of the school's holistic approach
  • Contribute to a growing provision with exciting opportunities for career progression

What You'll Need to Succeed

  • Experience teaching or tutoring Functional Skills (or equivalent)
  • A creative, adaptable, and student-centred approach
  • A passion for alternative education, outdoor learning, and animal-assisted support
  • Strong communication and behaviour management skills
  • Ideal for someone looking to move out of mainstream education or a previous Head of Department who is looking for a new challenge
