An exciting opportunity has arisen for a Band 7 clinical nurse specialist in GI late effects. The post holder has a responsibility to patients in providing a comprehensive specialist nursing service under the guidance of the medical and senior nursing team.

The successful candidate will be enthusiastic and experienced, who enjoys patient contact and working in a multi-disciplinary environment to support the delivery of a quality service. You must be able to demonstrate good communication skills, flexibility, reliability, be willing to learn and have an organised approach to work.

Due to the nature of the role, we are looking for a dependable and highly adaptable individual who is able to work independently, keen to develop themselves and has the ability to fit in quickly and work well as part of the team in the GIANT service.
• Clinical leadership to the nursing teams, maintaining credibility through practice and provide a high quality and safe patient service, which exceeds patient expectations.
• Routine management of patients with long term effects of their cancer treatment
• Using advanced clinical decision making and assessment skills, prompt treatment plans or referrals will be initiated to effectively manage acute and chronic cancer-related complications and/or toxicities from systemic anti-cancer treatments (SACT), supportive therapies and/or radiotherapy.
• Support the colorectal CNS with triaging “two week wait” patients and running the telephone triage clinics.
• Telephone triage of patients reporting side-effects / complications.
• Booking of routine and emergency investigations.

• The CNS will undertake routine assessment of patients in the GIANT clinic alongside the nurse consultant, Lead CNS in GI late effects, clinical fellow and consultant, and arrange further tests as appropriate.
• The CNS will manage patients living with and beyond their cancer.
• Working with the established GIANT clinical team to provide support and advice to nursing, medical and allied health professionals.
• To provide support and advice to patients and their carers relating to their disease, their cancer treatments, and any procedures.
