Crynodeb

Join Cardiff Metropolitan University as a Controls and Systems Engineer (BMS) and play a crucial role in optimising our building environments for learning while minimising energy consumption. We are committed to achieving net zero, and we need someone dedicated to the cause. Our initiatives are multi-award winning, revealing utilisation and energy waste and doing something about it. We were already energy efficient based on benchmarks, yet so far this academic year, we have further reduced our gas consumption by 23% vs last year, and we know that with your help we can go further faster.

You'll be responsible for actively managing, monitoring, and optimising the University's Building Management Systems. You’ll reveal and address issues with our different systems (primarily Trend), and develop the use of new technologies to adapt and automate legacy systems, to improve environmental quality, reduce energy use and support our net zero carbon commitments across the estate.

You'll lead the way by:

Proactively optimising system settings to balance environmental quality and energy efficiency.
Undertaking diagnostics and repairs on BMS-controlled systems.
Implementing software modifications and integrations to improve building performance, designing and piloting new solutions.
Supporting compliance, energy monitoring and carbon reduction projects.
Managing external consultants and contractors.
Systematically re-commissioning our existing buildings.

What you’ll bring

With demonstrable experience of working with Trend and other BMS systems, you’ll have a solid understanding of building systems and BMS architecture, software, and hardware controls. Your analytical skills will allow you to interpret system data, identify the cause of faults, and deliver effective solutions. Your creative side will identify, design and implement new solutions where we currently lack controls.

Additionally, you'll:

Hold a recognised technical qualification (e.g., City & Guilds, ONC, HNC) in building services, electrical engineering, controls engineering, or a related discipline.
Possess significant experience in fault finding and resolving BMS-related plant and equipment issues.
Have knowledge of energy management principles and how BMS can support carbon reduction.
Have a demonstrable personal commitment to addressing climate change.
