Main Duties and Responsibilities To provide one-stop, symptomatic and assessment clinics. To independently perform interventional invasive procedures, such as biopsies, aspirations and x-ray guided excisions. To perform image guided wire/localisation device/marker clip insertion Demonstrate clinical excellence and a high degree of personal professional autonomy and independent clinical judgement. To take responsibility for own case load and report independently on the images at the time of the examination and to discuss results, give reassurance when appropriate to patients To be responsible for contacting the relevant clinician to discuss findings where further management is necessary. Must have the appropriate interpersonal skills to teach and mentor student radiographers, specialist registrars in radiology, medical students and work experience students. To be post graduate module lead for Kings national training centre on relevant subject areas eg Clinical breast examination. To assist in the adaptation of service to respond to short term and long term demands, training staff to ensure the daily workload is organised in line with clinical priorities, rearranging work lists in case of equipment failure, while being responsive to the inconvenience caused to clients and other staff groups and other departments by short notice cancellation of procedures. Ensure development of, compliance with, and regular review of, Health and Safety policies and procedures within the specialist area, including ionising radiation safety policies, to provide a safe and secure environment. Provide timely, efficient and courteous provision of services to the agreed standards of the department taking account of the patient/clients clinical, physical and cultural needs. Accountable for own professional actions and work within codes of Practise and professional guidelines Work closely with the Radiologists and breast surgeons to provide a high quality service. Excellent communication skills with the patients/clients and the multidisciplinary team. To ensure the safe transferring of patients and equipment, following manual handling guidelines and using risk assessment. Contribute to service improvements and re-design in line with the NHS plan and local service strategies. Attend Multidisciplinary team meetings. Ensure the safety and well being of patients, staff and visitors within the department. Adhere to IR(M)ER guidelines. Ensure standard operating procedures are complied with and corrective actions taken where required. Responsibility for the undertaking of regular departmental audit and involvement in quality improvement projects. Complete the department equipment competencies for each rotational Modality area. Compliance with the requirements of Clinical Negligence Scheme for Trusts (CNST) Responsible for the quality assurance tests of the ultrasound machines Liaise with manufacturers and engineers with regards to machine maintenance and issues. People Management and Performance Lead, coach and manage the performance of the Breast Radiology team in line with good people management practices. Ensuring excellence is recognised and under-performance is addressed. Participate in regular performance appraisal meetings and ensure each member of the Breast Radiology team (Radiographers, Assistant Practitioners, Clinical Specialists) has a clear set of objectives and development plans. To work with the service manager to review skills mix at regular intervals in order to identify any potential opportunities to maximise resource utilisation / allocation, ensuring job descriptions and policies are kept up to date. Ensure overall well being of the Breast Radiology team is maintained. Continuously support in improving the morale of the team and implementing a culture of zero-tolerance for bullying and harassment.
