Imperial College Health Care NHS Trust is the largest provider of breast services in north-west London. The breast surgery department sees approximately 21,000 outpatients and undertakes 800 surgical procedures a year. The department provides a broad range of services including daily rapid diagnostic clinics, a comprehensive surgical service which offers the full range of reconstructive options, and a well-established family history clinic. It is an essential service for patients referred from local primary care services as well as the Trust-hosted West of London Breast Screening Service.

We welcome applications for this 10 PA fixed-term consultant breast surgeon post to start late summer 2025. The post-holder will play a key role in ensuring the department of breast surgery provides the local population with a high quality and accessible service. They will require broad experience in the diagnosis and management, including surgery, of patients with breast cancer and benign breast disease.



The post will be based at Charing Cross Hospital although there may be a requirement to undertake some outpatient activity at St Mary’s Hospital. The post-holder will divide their time between direct care, ie clinical work, surgery and outpatients (80%), and medical staff management and training (20%). In addition to their own theatre lists, the breast surgeons work jointly with the plastics team on immediate reconstruction cases. The surgeons run one-stop rapid diagnostic new patient clinics and follow-up clinics. There is no on-call commitment with this post.

The job plan for this post will be made up of clinics (5 PAs), operating (1.25 PAs including 1.75 PAs flexible theatre sessions), MDT (1 PA) and one core SPA for continuing professional development on a weekly basis.

The breast clinical sessions will consist of one-stop rapid diagnostic clinics and a follow-up clinic. The surgical sessions will be for patients with breast cancer or other breast disease. There will also be joint surgical sessions with the plastics team for patients requiring mastectomy prior to immediate autologous reconstruction. There is no on-call commitment with this post.
