Job Purpose:
To supervise and support the delivery of efficient, safe, and friendly bar service within the rugby clubhouse. The Bar Team Supervisor plays a hands-on leadership role in overseeing bar operations during shifts, ensuring excellent customer service, adherence to licensing laws, and a well-organised team environment.
Key Responsibilities:
Bar Operations & Supervision
● Lead the bar team during busy periods, ensuring smooth and efficient service.
● Open and close the bar in line with clubhouse procedures.
● Maintain high standards of cleanliness, hygiene, and presentation behind the bar.
● Monitor stock usage during shifts and report low levels or waste to the Clubhouse Manager.
● Ensure compliance with licensing regulations and age verification procedures.
Team Leadership
● Supervise, support, and motivate bar staff and volunteers during shifts.
● Provide on-the-job training for new team members and help maintain staff discipline and morale.
● Delegate tasks effectively to ensure all areas of the bar are covered.
Customer Service
● Deliver high-quality, friendly, and professional service to all customers, including members, players, and visiting teams.
● Resolve customer issues promptly and professionally, escalating when necessary.
Cash Handling & Reporting
● Operate SumUp tills and ensure accurate cash and card transactions.
● Complete cashing-up procedures and reconcile takings at the end of shifts.
● Report discrepancies or equipment issues to the Clubhouse Manager.
Health & Safety
● Ensure the bar area complies with all health, safety, and hygiene standards.
● Follow correct food and drink handling procedures.
● Assist with enforcing safety measures on busy match days or events.
Person Specification:
Essential:
● Experience working in a bar or hospitality environment.
● Strong leadership and communication skills.
● Knowledge of bar operations and licensing laws.
● Reliable, organised, and capable of working independently during shifts.
● Able to work evenings, weekends, and match/event days.
Desirable:
● Personal Licence Holder (or willingness to obtain).
● Experience supervising a team in a bar or event setting.
● First Aid or basic food hygiene certificate.
● Passion for sport or community club environments.
